As we wrap up 2022 and say goodbye to graphic eyeliner, frosted pastels and copper hair, we look forward to seeing what the future has in store for all things beauty — from makeup inspo to try to must-have skincare.

Based on recent beauty trends, 2023 runway looks and our favourite blast-from-the-past-inspired looks, we’re predicting the hottest 2023 beauty and makeup trends you need to know.

Read along and get ready to say hello to moody glam, sleek skin and bold blushes.

Bold blush/everything pink

We hope you like blush, because you’re about to see a whole lot more of it in 2023. From bold statement blushes in unique, non-traditional placements on the face to a bold pink lip, we predict this fun, youthful colour will be lighting up faces all year long.

Try: Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Soft Pinch Liquid Blush in Bliss, Sephora, $26.

K-beauty

Every year, Korean beauty products and trends seem to become more and more popular in Canada, and in 2023, we predict this love will really take over.

Regarded by many as being ahead of the trends with clean, advanced ingredients — thanks to the cruelty-free beauty boom — and effective applications, the Korean beauty industry has been proven to show significant results in the skincare game and it is only a matter of time that we all hop on the wave.  The best part? Many popular Korean beauty brands are available in Canada now.

Try: Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Ultra-Fine Mist, Sephora, $38.

Skinimalism

Closely following K-beauty, “Skinimalism” — which focuses on a minimalist skincare routine, protecting your skin barrier and choosing more subtle makeup — it’s all about getting back to the basics. This look is set to pair with barely there foundation, dewy shimmery skin and subtle no-makeup makeup looks.

Try: Saie Mini Glowy Super Gel Lightweight Dewy Highlighter, Sephora, $21.

Goth glam

As seen in Versace RTW Spring 2023 shows last fashion week, we’re bringing back goth glam — not only in fashion, but in all things beauty. From dark eyeshadow to dark hooded dresses, Donatella reignited our love for dark, gothic-inspired, dramatic makeup looks — and we’re running with it.

In 2023, we predict gothic goddess-meets-early-‘90s rocker will be the newest trend, concentrating heavily on dark shadows, bold lips, thin brows and shag haircuts, of course.

Try: NYX PROFESSIONAL MAKEUP Jumbo Eye Pencil in Black Bean, Amazon, $7.

Smudged lips

Keeping on the theme of natural beauty and subtle makeup looks, this blurred lip trend is a fan favourite — and we don’t think it is going away anytime soon. This subtle, barely there, effortless lip look pairs perfectly with a model-off-duty outfit and a subtle gloss for extra glam.

Achieve this look easily by dabbing a subtle amount of your favourite lip shade to a small makeup brush and dabbing it onto your lips, or even better, smudge it onto your lips and blend it out with your finger to keep on the effortless trend.

Try: Saie Lip Blur Soft-Matte Hydrating Lipstick with Hyaluronic Acid, Sephora, $31.

Colour-pop lashes

Goodbye dark black mascara, hello pop of colour. Yes, you heard us correctly: brightly coloured mascara will be making a comeback, so pull out your blue mascara from 2008 — or buy a new one because that one is definitely dried out and expired by now — and get ready.

However you care to participate, this trend is one we can definitely hop back on. It is a fun way to add some colour to your look with minimal effort and adds some glam to a simple look.

Try: L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Original Mascara in Cobalt Blue, Amazon, $7.

Bleached brows

Like it or not, we predict bleached brows are here to stay — at least for a little while longer. Not only do they tie hand in hand with simple sheer skin, smudged lips and model-off-duty looks, but they are also chic, high-fashion and edgy (AKA everything we predict 2023 to be and more).

So, if you were thinking of bleaching your brows, here is your sign to do it now and rock it into the new year.

Anti-aging ingredients

While we’ve seen a fascination with anti-aging products growing on TikTok since 2020, we foresee continued interest in the latest innovations in the year to come.

According to WGSN, some key ingredients to look for include bakuchiol, retinols, collagen, antioxidants, peptides, glycolic acid, hyaluronic acid and ceramides.

Try: The Ordinary Multi-Peptide + HA Serum, Sephora, $18.

Gemstones and shimmer shadow

We saw this become a micro-trend earlier this year after the new season of Euphoria, but this time gemstones and shimmer shadow will have their full moment to shine. We’re bringing back out the rhinestones and sparkly eyeshadows and giving them their time to shine. Whether you add them around your eyes for an over-the-top sparkle or layer them over your cheeks as an exaggerated highlight, we’re here for it all.

Try: Face Jewels Gems, Amazon, $10.

Dark lips

Sticking with goth glam and pops of colour  — and our love for bringing back old trends, ‘90s bold lips are back, more specifically dark shades and statement colours. Take this trend to the max with a full goth-glam moment, or give it a moment to shine spicing up your no-makeup makeup look. Who better to shop the look from than the queen of the late ’90s herself, Gwen Stefani with the GVXE mini original lip trio.

Try: Nudestix Mini 90’s Nude Lips 3-Piece Kit, Sephora, $32.
