We’re only a few weeks away from the arrival of summer and, as the weather finally starts to warm up (goodbye seasonal depression), that can only mean one thing: it’s time to break out our spring wardrobes.
If you need some inspiration for your next outfit, we’ve got you covered. From maxi skirts and denim-on-denim to the return of ballet flats, here’s our list of spring style trends that will be everywhere this year.
Denim-on-denim, AKA the Canadian tuxedo, is a spring classic, with silhouettes that made appearances on runways during Paris and New York spring/summer 2023 fashion weeks. Your denim staples don’t necessarily have to be the same colour: a darker pant and a lighter shirt or denim jacket works well, too.
Denim Pocket Shirt, Zara, $60.
Straight Leg Jeans, Zara, $50.
Make way for mid-rise jeans
Speaking of denim: while low-rise jeans were met with some controversy last year, we’ve got an in-between option. Say hello to mid-rise jeans. It comfortably sits above the waist and between your belly button, for those who like a more relaxed fit.
Mika Relaxed Straight Mid Rise Jeans, Dynamite, $65.

Maxi skirts are a closet staple
Gracing the runways of Brandon Maxwell, Carolina Herrera and Peter Do, long maxi skirts are the flattering and versatile staple for this season. It’s definitely a nod to the ‘90s, and we’re kind of obsessed. Pair it with a simple grey or white tee, or an oversized sweater for the cooler days. Plus, it can be dressed up or down with your favourite sneakers or heels.
Babaton Slip Maxi Skirt, Aritzia, $98.
We love a good slit hem
High Rise A-Line Denim Midi Skirt, Gap, $85.
Channel your inner ballerina with ballet flats
If you were like us and had a serious moment with flats in the mid-2000s to 2010s — partly thanks to Blair Waldorf on Gossip Girl — then you may be glad to know that ballet flats are officially back. From Miu Miu’s flats to Chanel’s more French girl style, Gen Z celebs like Bella Hadid, Lily-Rose Depp and Matilda Djerf were recently giving ballet flats its moment.
Satin Effect Flats with Bow, Zara, $60.

Marc Jacobs, Isabel Marant and LaQuan Smith have given utilitarian their stamp of approval, so you should be rocking this style this spring. Cargo pants are a big one to come off the runways and street. They’re slouchy, comfortable and relaxed that can be paired with sneakers and a cute bomber jacket.

We love a good airy, ethereal look and this season, you can achieve it with sheer fabrics. From flowy spring dresses and skirts, to sheer long-sleeve tops, it’s the epitome of spring. The perfect look for picnics, having brunch or as a wedding guest, you’ll need it in your closet.

Make a statement with asymmetrical hems
Similar to a slit hem, asymmetric hems bring movement to your outfit with every step. Whether it’s a shirt with an off-the-shoulder hemline or a slit in a skirt or dress, this silhouette and style are perfect for a spring date night or keep it casual with a jean jacket or cowboy boots.
