Movie buffs, your time is now: the nominations for the 95th Academy Awards were revealed this morning — and it looks like there will be some major competition for the 2023 Oscars.

As Global News reports, the 2023 nominations were revealed via livestream by actors Riz Ahmed (who won an Oscar in 2020) and Allison Williams (who stars in the 2023 hit M3GAN). Here are some of the biggest surprises and snubs for the 2023 Oscar nominations.

Which movie got the most Oscar nominations in 2023?

Leading the pack, Everything Everywhere All at Once received 11 nominations — including a nomination for lead actress for Michelle Yeoh, making it her first-ever Oscar nomination

And, for those of us who love a comeback story, Ke Huy Quan received a best supporting actor nomination for Everything Everywhere All at Once. While an Oscar nomination is a big deal for anyone in the film industry, the former child actor (made famous for his work in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom) had given up on acting in the early 2000s, before being inspired to try again after the release of the film Crazy Rich Asians in 2018.

While Everything Everywhere All at Once received the most nominations this year, the movie was followed in number of nominations by The Banshees of Inisherin, The Fabelmans and All Quiet on the Western Front.

Rihanna earned her first Oscar nomination

2023 was already set to be a big year for Rihanna (the singer/designer/beauty brand owner/billionaire will headline the Superbowl Halftime show in February), and things just got more iconic. As ET reports, the new mom received her first-ever Academy Award nomination. Her single, “Lift Me Up,” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is nominated for Best Original Song.

Rihanna will have some pop-star competition in the category — Lady Gaga is also nominated for Best Original Song for “Hold My Hand” from Top Gun: Maverick.

2023 Oscar nomination snubs

While the nominees announced today celebrate, there are also some notable snubs. As People details, many expected Taylor Swift to join her fellow pop icons with a nomination this year for her song “Carolina” from Where the Crawdads Sing, as it was shortlisted for a nomination.

In the Best Actress category — which saw Cate Blanchett, Ana de Armas, Andrea Riseborough and Michelle Williams get nominations, in addition to Michelle Yeoh — many had expected Viola Davis to be recognized for her work in The Woman King (she was nominated for a Golden Globe and a SAG Award for her performance). Danielle Deadwyler was also notably absent from the category, as she won a Gotham Award for her performance in Till.

A few stars were left out from nominations in the Best Actor category as well. Many predicted that Tom Cruise may receive a nom for Top Gun: Maverick, as well as Adam Sandler for the Netflix basketball drama Hustle

Also, many were surprised that James Cameron did not net a nomination for Best Director for his sequel to Avatar.
