While they’re not without controversy in recent years, the Golden Globe Awards still serve for many as the unofficial kickoff to awards season — and the Golden Globes’ red carpet is the perfect place for our favourite TV and movie stars to show off their best looks. When it came to looks, last night’s 2023 Golden Globes, hosted by Jerrod Carmichael, delivered.

Selena Gomez, who received her first Golden Globe nomination this year for Only Murders in the Building, was a style showstopper in a black velvet Valentino Haute Couture gown finished with voluminous sleeves in a deep plum hue. As for her date? The Rare Beauty founder brought her 9-year-old sister, Gracie, as her plus one.

While she may not have walked the red carpet, Rihanna definitely nailed the assignment when it came to Golden Globes fashion this year. The singer (and soon-to-be Super Bowl halftime show performer), who was nominated for best original song for “Lift Me Up” in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, wowed at the event in a black gown, Schiaparelli Haute Couture stole and Cartier jewellry.

Interestingly, the star driving the Wednesdaycore moment took a different route for her Golden Globes glam. Wednesday star (and first-time nominee) Jenna Ortega chose a dreamy draped and pleated Gucci gown in a pale copper colour.
Michelle Yeoh was a winner in more ways than one at the 2023 Golden Globes. The actress took home the award for best performance by an actress in a motion picture for Everything Everywhere All at Once, she had one of the most impactful acceptance speeches of the evening and she looked incredible in a strapless, tiered midnight-blue Armani Privé peplum gown that shimmered with embroidered crystals and sequins.
Nominated for their role in House of the Dragon, Emma D’Arcy brought a modern edge to the red carpet in an oversized tux (which featured half a skirt over sleek trousers) from Acne Studios. Bright purple-blue gloves delivered a pop of colour that brought out the tint to their hair.

E! host Laverne Cox brought the old Hollywood glam that we know and love in a striking blue vintage John Galliano gown — finished with silver sequins for a touch of Mermaidcore-inspired sparkle.

Making the case for the next (and a touch softer) stage of the Barbiecore aesthetic, Golden Globe winner (she took home a statue for her performance in Ozark) and Inventing Anna star Julia Garner was an ethereal dream in a flouncy pink Gucci gown.
While it’s definitely a spin from traditional red-carpet menswear, we love the confidently relaxed feel of Donald Glover’s Saint Laurent look featuring a white robe shirt and trousers topped with a black tux jacket. The actor was nominated for his work in Atlanta.
