If you’re looking to book your next trip, look no further. The Condé Nast Traveller global editors have shared The Gold List 2023 – their collection of the best hotels and resorts in the world – and a Canadian lodge has made the cut.

Canada has really been establishing itself as a go-to travel destination lately, making it onto lists of the top 100 cities in the world, the best islands in the world, the best ski resorts in the world and the world’s coolest neighbourhoods – plus it even topped the list of the coolest streets in the world. Now, with a destination on The Gold List, a Canadian lodge has established itself as one of the best places to stay across the globe.

The annual editor’s list “reveals which seaside retreat we return to every August and the city hotel that gets everything right,” Condé Nast Traveller explains. So, if you’re wondering where you should travel to next, all you have to do is read through and find the perfect destination for you.

What Canadian location made ‘The Gold List’?

Vancouver Island’s Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge has been deemed one of the best hotels and resorts in the world. While you can only reach this lodge by boat, helicopter or floatplane, it boasts 25 canvas tents that were created as an homage to the former gold-mining settlement – as they’re modelled after prospector camps.

Condé Nast Traveller calls the escape “a Pacific Coast twist on the traditional African wildlife safari.” Ultimately, a stay at Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge will be all about nature, boasting activities that were specifically designed to help guests reconnect to the environment around them. In fact, they offer an all-inclusive pricing model that bundles activities like horseback riding, kayaking and hiking into one rate.

“Accessible only by seaplane, the journey to Clayoquot is symbolic of a real departure from the everyday,” the resort’s website details. “Set among magnificent conifer forests, the lodge offers guests an unforgettable experience of the landscape and its wildlife. Adventure-filled days are bolstered by local produce-driven, sustainable dining, fine wines, world-class accommodation and the chance to unwind in generously appointed campaign-style guest tents.”

The hotel has long embraced “a regenerative approach to tourism, aiming not just to preserve but to improve the surrounding wilderness and livelihood of the local First Nations people,” Condé Nast Traveller adds. Even the food showcases the local ingredients, with three-course meals highlighting everything from foraged salmonberries to freshly harvested prawns.

What other resorts made the list?

Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge lands on the list of the best hotels and resorts in the world alongside famous destinations like Málaga, Spain’s Marbella Club; Como, Italy’s Grand Hotel Tremezzo; New York City’s The Mark; Antigua’s Jumby Bay Island; Marrakech, Morocco’s La Mamounia; Dubai’s One&Only Royal Mirage and more.
