Canadian cities have been making waves lately, from landing spots on the list of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world to topping the list of the world’s coolest streets. Now, five Canadian cities have landed on the list of the top 100 cities in the world.

Resonance Consultancy’s freshly released World’s Best Cities Report “ranks the world’s best cities with populations of more than a million, using a combination of statistical performance and qualitative evaluations by locals and visitors in 24 areas grouped into six core categories.”

The list ranks cities based on factors that attract employment, tourism and investment.

Which Canadian cities made the list of the top 100?

While no cities on this land made their way onto the top 10, the top Canadian city listed was Toronto, which made its way to number 24 on the list because of factors like its diversity, education and a “high number of head offices of major companies,” according to CTV News.

“The fact is, you can visit the world in a day here,” Ted Rogers School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at Toronto Metropolitan University professor and interim director Wayne Smith explained to CTV News Toronto. “There’s not a lot of other places in the world that come even close to the diversity of the city. If you want Afghan food, you can find it. If you want some Sudanese food, you’ll find it, too.”

Canada’s second-largest city, Montreal, also made its way onto the list, coming in at number 56. World’s Best Cities cited Montreal’s income equality, culture, tech expertise and McGill University. Next was Calgary, which ranked 65th for its income equality, young population, quality of life and access to education.

Metro Vancouver clocked in at number 69 due to its safety, income equality, distinct topography and university.

Where is the best city in the world?

London, England landed the title of the best city in the entire world, due to its tourism, popularity with investors, luxury properties, economic development and high-profile residents.
