Gen Z is known for taking outdated styles and bringing them back to life in all things fashion, and the latest trending hairstyles for 2022 are just one example of that. Growing up as a generation that followed in the footsteps of side bangs, choppy layers and chunky highlights, it’s no surprise we pay homage to the generations past in today’s trends.

According to Glamour UK, some of the biggest hairstyle trends this year will be fresh takes on most-loved looks from the past. From the return of the ‘90s supermodel blowout to sleek Y2K-meets-2022 ‘dos, here are some of the biggest hairstyle trends we’re seeing in 2022.

2022 Hair trend: The return of the blowout

While 2021 was the year of skunk hair, wispy bangs and bobs, we can now look forward to yet another modernized look.  The ‘90s blowout, famously sported by Jennifer Aniston in Friends, is making its return, being worn frequently by celebs today from Addison Rae to Adele. If you don’t have a blowout tool, you may want to reconsider getting one.

2022 Hair trend: The ‘70s are in — and no, not the disco pants

Following the comeback theme, the choppy, layered ‘70s influenced shag that grabbed everyone’s attention last year is back and better than ever. 2022 Hair trend: The noughties are back

Worn frequently in the early 2000s by, well, just about everyone from Paris Hilton to Lindsay Lohan, the sleek straight look is about as Y2K as it gets, in a good way — and we’re happy to see it make a comeback.  The look focuses on super straight, shiny hair strands, sometimes rocked with mini face-framing braids and a middle part.
