The Most Expensive Celebrity Divorces in Hollywood History

OK, so this fight ain't over yet. The former golden couple have been tied up in court proceedings since they announced their (rather nasty) split back in 2016. As of 2021, they've both spent more than $1 million each in legal fees, not to mention their ongoing battle over their $164 million Chateau Miraval estate in Correns, France.

After more than four years of "he said, she said" this might go down as one of the longest celeb divorce cases ever, with some experts predicting it could last another six years, taking us into 2027.

Divorce settlement: $14 million

In between relationships with Sean Combs and Ben Affleck (the first time), J.Lo was married to her former backup dancer for nine months. The couple met on the set of her music video for "Love Don't Cost a Thing" and if that's not irony we don't know what is. She knows better now, at least.

Divorce settlement: $20 million

Before Melania there was Marla Maples. But before both women was Ivana, who gave Donald 15 years and three kids — Don Jr., Eric and Ivanka. Ivana may have won in the divorce, but the rest of us lost.

Their relationship started on an icky note (Richie's first wife caught them together in a hotel) and they got married two years after his divorce to his college sweetheart was finalized. The marriage lasted eight years but came to an abrupt end in 2003 with the fashion designer reportedly requesting in her alimony petition for a clothing and plastic surgery allowance from the singer.

Divorce settlement: $25 million

The Rolling Stones frontman and the supermodel got married in 1990, after 13 years together. Some wonder why they bothered exchanging vows, but they did last for nine more years — you know, until it came out that Jagger had fathered a child with a Brazilian model. Naturally, Hall filed for divorce... and is now way better off (you'll see soon).

The couple were married for 24 years when reports of Hogan's infidelity came out, though he denied ever cheating on her. Linda filed for divorce the following year anyway, and walked away with an estimated 70 per cent of the couple's liquid assets.

Their split was the opposite of amicable, with Kelsey describing their 13-year marriage as a "farce from the beginning" (which must've been great for their two children to hear) and that he helped Camille get a role on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, and even participated in it, "as a going-away present." This from the guy who announced that his jumpoff/now-wife Kayte was pregnant — six months before his and Camille's divorce was finalized. They split their valued assets evenly, rightfully so.

Danson left his first wife for Whoopi Goldberg (remember that?) and it cost him — $30 mill, to be exact.

Douglas was 32 when he married 19-year-old Luker in March 1977. Things were good until 1995 when Diandra filed for divorce. She cited irreconcilable differences, asked for joint custody of their son, Cameron, as well as a share of their properties which included homes in Santa Barbara, Aspen, Manhattan and Majorca, Spain. The settlement they agreed upon was half of Douglas' net worth.

Divorce settlement: $50 million

Cameron met Hamilton on the set of Terminator 2: Judgment Day and they dated for six years before marrying in 1997. Then Cameron met Suzy Amis on the set of Titanic and after only eight months of marriage, they split. As part of the divorce settlement, and his rumoured affair with Zmis, Cameron was ordered to pay Hamilton $50 million — half of what he made from Titanic. FYI, Amis is now Cameron's wife and has been since 2000.

Lauer and Roque officially divorced in 2019. According to Us Weekly, Annette "will receive the horse farm, their current [Hamptons] residence and a one-time payment of $25 million" — which works out to be around $50 mill. And Matt is reportedly pissed about it. Hmm, maybe if you weren't a serial cheater with a list of sexual misconduct accusations you could have a say.

Divorce settlement: $76 million to $92 million

After nearly eight years of marriage and two sons, Madge and Guy threw in the towel and eventually agreed to terms that gave the director somewhere in between £50–60 million ($64–77 million, at the time).

The couple married three years after meeting in college and lasted for 16 years, but she reportedly wasn't a fan of the "sexy roles" Costner was taking, not to mention his wandering eye. She gave him an ultimatum: quit their marriage or quit making movies. They divorced in 1994.

The couple met on the set of 1979's Apocalypse Now (in which she was the screenwriter and he had a minor role)and married four years later. They separated in 2000 after reports claimed he was cheating on her with a younger woman. sadly, Mathison passed away in 2015.

When it was uncovered that Woods had an affair with Rachel Uchitel back in 2009, it wasn't too big a deal (though then-wife Nordegren would beg to differ), but soon after more women came out of the woodwork, and the golfer released a statement admitting to his "transgressions." Tiger not only lost Elin, who walked away with a pretty penny, but also his golf game — which is finally picking up steam again, albeit with the shadow of his infidelity hanging over his head.

Divorce settlement: $125 million

Brooks and Mahl were college sweethearts when they got married in 1986. The couple split in 1999, and the divorce became final in 2001. Brooks has since remarried, finding love with Trisha Yearwood.

Divorce settlement: $150 million

The singer's $300-million earnings were reportedly split between Diamond and Murphey, who divorced in 1995 after 25 years of marriage.

Divorce settlement: $168 million

The former NBA star and his wife of filed for divorce after 12-and-a-half years, but reconciled shortly after. But there was going to be no happily ever after for these who changed their minds once again. Their mutual and amicable divorce was finalized in 2006 with Juanita receiving the largest celebrity divorce settlement on public record at the time.

After 31 years of marriage and seven kids, many people are just resigned to that being their life, for better or worse. Not so for Robyn, who filed for separation the day after Mel was arrested for drinking and driving. She filed for divorce three years later after photos of Mel and Oksana Grigorieva went public, and they were officially over on Dec. 23, 2011. Merry Christmas to Robyn!

The media mogul and the Scottish journalist tied the knot in 1967 and appeared to be solid for the next three decades. But it was believed that Anna wanted Rupert to retire, something he refused to do. So in 1998 they announced their separation. Six months later, she was either forced off or resigned from News Corp's Board (depends on who you ask) and they divorced soon after. Her settlement — $110 million of which was in cold, hard, beautiful cash — ranks as the most expensive divorce of all time. That we know of. And it seems it didn't scare either from remarrying, and quick. Murdoch married Wendy Deng 17 years after the divorce was finalized; Torv exchanged vows with William Mann six months later. Murdoch and Deng divorced in 2013. He's now on his fourth marriage — to Mick Jagger's ex, Jerry Hall.
