Some celebrities seem made for each other, while others don’t last. But then there’s our favourite kind of celeb couple: the ones we never knew were a thing. (We legit have to remind ourselves on a regular basis that Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes — the most private couple in Hollywood — are not only a thing, but have two kids together.) So, if your jaw drops at some of these surprise couplings, you’re not alone.

Zendaya and Tom Holland
The rumours had circulated for years (since 2017, to be exact) that these two were an item, but we just never had the receipts. That is, until an all-star pap managed to sneak a shot of the two sharing a steamy kiss in a car this summer. Now that the truth is finally out there, it remains to be seen whether they'll make an official red carpet debut as a couple... or if that tabloid "outing" will only make them retreat further away from the spotlight.

Robert Pattinson and Suki Waterhouse
No doubt scarred by the intense public scrutiny he faced when dating his Twilight co-star Kristen Stewart, RPatz has kept things private in his long-term relationship with British model-actress Suki Waterhouse. The couple, who have been together since July 2018, allegedly rode out the pandemic in London together in relative peace and quiet, only occasionally being photographed together by the paparazzi while out shopping. If nothing else, it casually reminded the general public that they were an item. No word on what Suki thinks about those rumours that her man is one the most terrible kissers in Hollywood, though.

Margot Robbie and Tom Ackerley
If you, at any point in recent years, held out hope that you'd possibly-maybe have a chance to shoot your shot with Margot Robbie one day, we're here to dash those dreams (sorry). The intensely private Aussie star (who recently said she was quitting social media) has actually been married to British filmmaker Tom Ackerley since 2016 (they first started dating in 2014). Spotting them together is rare (Robbie often attends industry events solo) and she's only made a handful of comments about their life together.

Alison Brie and Dave Franco
Sometimes they'll show up together on the red carpet and we'll all collectively smack our foreheads and say, 'Oh yeahhhh! They're a thing." As one of Hollywood's most under-the-radar couples, it's easy to forget that Brie and Franco have been together since 2011. The two exchanged vows in 2017 and still occasionally pop up in each others' movie projects. We stan a healthy, private relationship.

Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden
Although Cameron Diaz braved the spotlight when she famously dated Justin Timberlake, it appears the actress preferred to keep things more low-key after meeting the Good Charlotte guitarist. The two were first linked in 2014 before getting married the following year. In late 2019, they quietly welcomed daughter Raddix. Secret wedding? Secret baby? We have nothing but respect for these two.

A$AP Rocky and Rihanna
The power couple were first linked back in 2013 after A$AP Rocky opened for Rihanna during her Diamonds World Tour. But, due to their private nature, their exact dating timeline is a bit tough to nail down. Over the years, the pair have been photographed together, but little was given by way of real evidence. It was only in May 2021, when Rocky gushed about RiRi during a GQ interview that everything was confirmed. Calling her "the love of his life", there's no denying these two are a hot (albeit low-key) item.

Carey Mulligan and Marcus Mumford
Similar to Alison Brie and Dave Franco, it's easy to forget that the uber-private Carey Mulligan and the Mumford and Sons musician are together until they show up on the red carpet holding hands. After first being linked in 2011, the couple exchanged vows in 2012 and, over the years, have welcomed two kids, Evelyn and Wilfred.

Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn
Although Taylor Swift has caught a lot of (unfair) flack over the years for writing about ex-boyfriends — many of whom were Hollywood-famous — the folklore songwriter has apparently been quietly attached to English actor Joe Alwyn since 2016. Rarely photographed at events together, the two keep it casual when around cameras but have been snapped by the paps over the years.

Joshua Jackson and Jodie Turner-Smith
You'd be forgiven for assuming that Canada's own Joshua Jackson was still linked to his former longtime flame Diane Kruger. But you'd be mistaken. As it turns out, Jackson has been with British model-actress Jodie Turner-Smith since at least 2019 (some reports have them linked since 2018). In 2020, he and Turner-Smith welcomed a daughter named Janie. To make your heads spin even more, did you know that Jackson's ex Kruger is with The Walking Dead's Norman Reedus? They also share a daughter together.

Kate Mara and Jamie Bell
Similar to Joshua Jackson, you're not alone if you thought Jamie Bell was still with Evan Rachel Wood. But, spoiler alert: they parted ways in 2014 and continue to share custody of their son. Bell has been with Kate Mara since 2015 after working together on the set of Fantastic Four. Two years later, they were married. In 2019, they had a daughter, but have remained tight-lipped on the details, including the name.

Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons
The former child star and the Friday Night Lights alum got together while filming the second season of the FX anthology series, Fargo. Although photographed together at industry events, the pair have remained tight-lipped about their relationship. What little we do know is that they've been together since 2015, have been engaged for four years and quietly welcomed two kids — of whom we don't know the sex or names. When it comes to uber-private Hollywood couples, these two are among the top.

Rosario Dawson and Cory Booker
The United States Senator (and RuPaul's cousin!) has been linked to the Sin City star since 2019. In 2021, the pair quietly moved in together, a fact that only became public knowledge when Booker casually let it slip during an interview. Other than that, little is known about what goes on behind the scenes with this famous (and, yet, not-so-famous) pair. And that seems to be just the way they like it.
