The days of active wear only being meant for the gym are long gone. Every celebrity and influencer — and, heck, probably even your friends — has been spotted outside turning their hot girl walk outfits into an everyday look. With the variety of styles now available, going out in athleisure-style outfits has never been easier (or more acceptable). While throwing on athleisure wear in the summer is a pretty simple task, we were curious – how do we keep utilizing our overflow of matching athletic sets in the winter?

We looked at two styles of sets, both from Canadian brands: a long-sleeve with leggings from 437 and a cropped tank with leggings from Dynamite. Beyond beanies, fuzzy scarves and warm boots, here are our favourite ways to stay cute, cozy and ready for a workout, all season.

Add a boxy white button-up

I think it goes without saying that this is the most fool-proof method of elevating any athleisure set for outdoor wear. In the summer, I typically opt for a long and fluid button-up option, but with the colder weather, I find a shorter and boxy button-up shirt does the trick. Given the length of the shirt I chose, it also makes it easy to layer a jacket on top without having too many varying lengths of layers showing through.

Put on a puffer vest

As one of the most popular items for this season, I’ll look for any excuse to throw my puffer over an outfit. For those days where it’s just warm enough to bear not having extra arm coverage, and I’m already wearing a long sleeve, a puffer vest does its job of keeping me warm yet stylish.

Layer on a leather jacket

Though I’m not sure if anyone’s planning on wearing an athletic set on a night out, my favourite way to take an athleisure outfit from day to night is with a leather jacket. Pair this look with boots in a colour that matches your jacket and voila, it’ll look like you put more thought into your outfit than you probably did.

Top with an oversized or maxi cardigan

These provide maximum coverage to keep you cozy — and also create long flattering lines to bring your outfit together while covering you top to bottom. A good cardigan is a wardrobe staple – you can easily throw a cardigan on with just about any outfit.

Try a teddy coat

A super realistic yet adorable way to stay warm in your athletic wear is obviously, a coat, but I’m a sucker for anything teddy fleece or sherpa. Adding a cozy jacket to your outfit will automatically make it look and feel “winter chic” — and who doesn’t want to look adorable in a puffy, fuzzy coat?

Try: Comeon Fuzzy Faux Shearling Oversized Jacket, Amazon, $33 (On sale now).
