Sex will be so much better with the love of your life, they said. Intimacy with your forever partner will never be awkward, they promised. Well, it would appear “they” don’t know what the hell they’re talking about, based on a recent American-based poll.

In an online study conducted by OnePoll, it was revealed that a whopping half of the couples surveyed admitted their current companion is the worst sexual partner they’ve ever had. Ouch. Makes you cringe just reading that, doesn’t it? Think about it: the worst sexual experience they’ve ever had. Worse than those bad Tinder dates and foggy one-night stands.

The poll, which surveyed 2,000 Americans, discovered that sex injuries and awkwardness were main contributors behind negative experiences in the boudoir.

In terms of sex injuries, 57 per cent of respondents revealed it happened in the shower, while 53 per cent said it was the result of the “wheelbarrow” position. When asked what the easiest way to injure yourself was based on their experiences, 62 per cent of those surveyed cited “doggy-style” as the main culprit.

In addition, two in every five couples surveyed (44 per cent) even admitted to stopping sex in the middle of the encounter because it was so mediocre or outright awful.

There’s light at the end of the tunnel, however. Thankfully, studies have shown over the years that, while regular sexual activity declines with age, middle-aged women regularly report higher rates of sexual satisfaction at that point in their lives. So, you know, there’s always that to look forward to.
