If you, like us, are immersed in the world of The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip lately, you’re probably wondering where Alexia Nepola and Leah McSweeney stand after McSweeney’s harsh comments during the second episode.
In the second episode of RHUGT, The Real Housewives of Miami star Alexia Nepola opened up about her ex-husband, Herman Echevarria Sr., who passed away in 2016 after a heart attack. Nepola revealed that Echeverria passed away before coming out as gay to her, which she has regrets about because she would have loved to support him through it.
As Nepola was retelling the story, The Real Housewives of New York City alum Leah McSweeney looked apathetic as she called the story “boring.”
Now, in an exclusive interview with Slice, Nepola spilled details about the tense moment.
“I guess I just thought Leah was being Leah,” Nepola tells us. “I mean, I feel like she needs attention and when the attention is not on her, she either withdraws or she has to say something mean or inappropriate. That’s what she does, so I really didn’t let it affect me because I felt like all the other girls were so invested.”
But Nepola didn’t let McSweeney’s attitude throw a wrench in her trip, especially with the support of other Housewives like Gizelle Bryant.
“Gizelle was asking a lot of questions, but she does it in such a good way,” Nepola adds. “She’s really interested, like she’s really curious. She’s that kind of friend that wants to know everything and in my particular case it came from a good place and she really wanted to know about my story. But again, with Leah, I don’t really think my story’s boring because I don’t think anybody on this planet thinks that. It was just a way to focus the attention on her and to shut it down or start a problem.”
What was Alexia Nepola’s impression of Leah McSweeney?
Nepola also tells us that McSweeney surprised her with the way she acted on RHUGT season 3.
“Leah wasn’t what I thought she was going to be,” Nepola details. “I thought that she – coming in with a disadvantage with not being on TV, not coming with somebody from her show – that she would come in with like a nice, friendly, energetic energy to be friends with all of us and get to know us. And I just didn’t get that from her on day one, so I just felt like she really didn’t want to be there. I saw her withdraw. She didn’t seem happy.”
Despite McSweeney’s harsh remarks, which we’ve already seen on this season of Ultimate Girls Trip, Nepola understands where McSweeney is coming from.
“You know what? We were all going through stuff,” Nepola explains with heart. “I had to leave my family, which was the hardest thing for me, by the way, going on a trip like this – especially for 13 days across the world. So for me, that was the most difficult part. But I felt like at the end, I would still do this trip with all the girls again.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Nepola gave us the scoop on all things RHUGT, opening up about rooming with her bestie Marysol Patton, who she fought with “like sisters.” Read the interview in full here.
