Swifties, prepare yourselves for some sleepless nights — a new Taylor Swift album, Midnights, is coming on October 21.

As reported by Billboard, the star first announced the new album (which will be Swift’s 10th studio album — and her first album of new, not re-recorded, music since 2020’s Evermore) in the most epic way: while accepting the video of the year award for her short film “All Too Well” at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards.

“I thought it might be a fun moment to tell you that my brand new album comes out October 21,” Swift said. “And I will tell you more at midnight.”

Indeed, following a countdown at TaylorSwift.com, Swift offered further details on her Instagram, writing: “Midnights, the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life, will be out October 21. Meet me at midnight.”

We lie awake in love and fear, in turmoil and in tears.

Swift’s Instagram post featured two slides. The first showcased an image of Swift alongside a list of track numbers (13 in total). The second featured another image of Swift with text over top:

“We lie awake in love and fear, in turmoil and in tears. We stare at walls and drink until they speak back. We twist in our self-made cages and pray that we aren’t – right this minute – about to make some fateful life-altering mistake,” Swift wrote.

“This is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams. The floors we pace and the demons we face. For all of us who have tossed and turned and decided to keep the lanterns lit and go searching – hoping that just maybe, when the clock strikes twelve… we’ll meet ourselves.”

As for the album’s release date? While it may be a total coincidence, Page Six points out that October 21 also happens to be Kim Kardashian’s birthday.
