Self-tanner might seem like a quick fix for someone looking to hold onto their summer glow, but it can also potentially make you look like a pumpkin. Unfortunately, Selena Gomez learned this hard lesson firsthand back in 2018 at the Met Gala, when she famously looked super orange on the red carpet.

Now, the Only Murders in the Building actress is looking back at the fashion miss. In a new beauty routine video for Vogue, she opened up about the self-tanning flop in detail.

She begins applying bronzer before explaining: “I want to tell you a little funny story about self-tanner.”

“For the Met Gala I was getting ready and we wanted to add some colour, so [we] put on some of this tanning lotion and it looked really beautiful and very even,” she continued. “As the evening kept going on it was getting a little darker and darker, and I didn’t notice it. I’m at the Met Gala, one of the most prestigious, beautiful events, and I’m walking trying to look all beautiful and I look at a photo of myself when I sit down and I’m completely orange.”

To make matters worse, Gomez was wearing a white gown which only made her look even darker. Because she was afraid of the critics roasting her, she hilariously decided to make light of the situation with a video on Instagram of her fleeing the gala.
