It looks like Barbie Ferreira’s days of sparkly makeup have come to an end. The revered Euphoria actor has announced that she’s saying a “teary-eyed goodbye” to her character Katherine “Kat” Hernandez ahead of season 3.

According to Variety, Ferreira took to Instagram to make the announcement.

“After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character Kat, I’m having to say a very teary-eyed goodbye,” she wrote. “I hope many of you could see yourself in her like I did and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today. I put all my care and love into her and I hope you guys could feel it. Love you Katherine Hernandez.”

Ferreira played the mysterious-yet-empowered Kat, who stood as a symbol of body positivity. Throughout the first season, Kat found her style as she honed in on her sexuality, unlocking power through her cam-girl persona and skyrocketing confidence. Unfortunately, that well-received storyline was quickly pushed to the backburner in season 2.

Rumours of on-set tension between Ferreira and Euphoria showrunner Sam Levinson spread like wildfire among viewers. After fans started claiming that Ferreira even stormed off set, HBO released a statement refuting the allegations. Later in March, Ferreira even took part in an interview with Insider about season 2 where she shut down the claims for good.

“I really think that the fans are really passionate and I do appreciate that because Euphoria has really impacted so many people,” Ferreira explained. “Sometimes, things take on a life of their own, and they’re not rooted in the truth, but it’s OK because I know it’s just out of passion and out of curiosity and all that good stuff.”
