Italian Dream: What a Torontonian Spent in a Day as a Tourist on the Amalfi Coast

From the historic and iconic sights in Rome, to Venice’s canals and the idyllic Amalfi Coast, Italy is a dream travel destination for many of us.

If the Amalfi Coast is on your travel bucket list, then get ready to pack your carry-on bag, because we’ve got you covered with some inspiration. As creator Vashti (AKA @vashtitash_) shared on Slice.ca’s TikTok, there are a ton of dreamy things to do – many that won’t hurt your wallet – but will surely be unforgettable.

Bus from the Airbnb: €2.60 (approx. $3.45 CAD)

The Amalfi Coast stretches around 50 kilometres along the southern edge of Italy’s Sorrentine peninsula. For an easy (and cost-effective) way to get around from town to town, Vashti took the bus.

An Italian sandwich for lunch: €7 (approx. $9.30 CAD)

After the bus ride, Vashti fueled up with an Italian sandwich for lunch for a long day ahead.

Beach day in Positano: free

A popular place on the Amalfi Coast, Positano is a small vertical town that overhangs the Mediterranean Sea. All the beaches in Positano are Instagram worthy, and swimming in the ocean while looking at the incredible views is definitely a pinch-me moment.

Ferry back to Amalfi: €9 (approx. $12 CAD)

Taking the ferry is one way to get back to the main town of Amalfi. It isn’t a long ride, and Vashti got to experience the sea breeze. 

Sightseeing public landmarks: free

After returning to the main town, Vashti and friends went sightseeing to explore the historical public landmarks, including picturesque buildings and churches.

Gelato: €5 (approx. $6.60 CAD)

After a stroll through town, pausing for some gelato is next on the list. Vashti stopped for a sweet treat and sat in town, just outside the Amalfi Terminal restaurant to wind down (an absolute must!).

Seafood dinner: €22 (approx. $30 CAD)

One of the best parts of traveling to a new city is trying all its delicious food. And since the Amalfi Coast is known for the finest Italian seafood dishes, Vashti indulged in amazingly good-looking seafood and pasta dinner.

Drinks at Life Bar: €7 each (approx. $9.30 CAD)

To end the day, Vashti and friends enjoyed some cocktails at Life Bar. 

Total spend for the day: €50 (approx. $70 CAD)

The entire cost? Not including other travel expenses, the total cost of being a tourist in Amalfi is under $100 CAD, $70 to be precise. For a dreamy town like this, sign us up.
