The heat wave we’ve been experiencing this summer is nothing compared to the rising temperatures in the bedroom. After all, people aren’t calling this season the Summer of Sex for nothing.
According to Ashley Madison, the world’s leading dating site for people looking to have an affair (or two), cheaters are taking Hot Vax Summer to the next level. As Canadians gradually come out of lockdown and roll up their sleeves for the Covid vaccines, there’s been a significant surge in signups to the site since last summer. (Canucks aren’t alone either: according to the site, our US neighbours have also been busy in the boudoir.)

“Lockdown was the perfect storm for cheaters,” said Isabella Mise, director of communications for Ashley Madison, in a press release. “People in rocky relationships were pushed to their breaking points and excessive togetherness incited boredom in otherwise happy couples. After a winter where every day felt like groundhog day, Canadians will seize any opportunity for novelty and adventure.”
In the Ashley Madison study, they looked at the number of sign-ups between June 20, 2020 and September 22, 2020, on a per capita basis, to determine Canada’s current cheating hotspots. The results may shock you.

Some major cities with a high volume of people come as no surprise (see: Vancouver, Winnipeg and Ottawa). But other locations (St. John’s, NL or Barrie, ON, anyone?) come as a complete shock. Noticeably absent on this list is Toronto. That’s right: the largest city in Canada, with a population of more than 2.6 million, didn’t make the cut.
Are we to assume Torontonians are too chaste to engage in a little side action? Or perhaps, given the plethora of people you can bump into on a regular basis, those residing in Toronto don’t need the help of a website to hook up?
Regardless, given the soring divorce rates in Canada during the pandemic, there’s bound to be more drama (and Ashley Madison sign-ups) in the coming months.
