If, like us, The Princess Diaries 1 & 2 were defining moments in your childhood, buckle up, because The Princess Diaries 3 is officially in development.

Starring Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews, the film adaptations of Meg Cabot’s bestselling novels have a special place in our nostalgia-loving hearts. While the movies skyrocketed to fame in the early aughts — they were released in 2001 and 2004, respectively — there was talk of a threequel for quite some time. But it was never actually confirmed – until now.

According to Cosmopolitan, there’s finally a third Princess Diaries movie in the works, and we’re ready to see what Queen of Genovia, Mia Thermopolis, is up to decades later.

We’re on the edge of our seats waiting to watch this play out, so here’s everything we know about the highly anticipated Princess Diaries sequel thus far.

Who has signed on to The Princess Diaries 3?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Aadrita Mukerji (Supergirl, Quantum Leap) will be penning the film alongside producer Debra Martin Chase, who actually worked on the first two movies in the series.

The film is only in the early stages, so there’s been no cast announcement yet. While it’s tough to say who will be reprising their iconic Princess Diaries roles, we do know that Julie Andrews has confirmed that she likely won’t be coming back as Queen Clarisse Renaldi.

“I think it would be too late to do it now,” Andrews said to the dismay of fans far and wide. “Especially me, it’s too far down the line now to go back to it. It’s a lovely thought, but I don’t think it would probably be possible.”

Anne Hathaway, on the other hand, has been teasing that she’d like to return to the world of The Princess Diaries for quite some time now. She even told Entertainment Tonight that she was “pulling for” a new film and recently admitted it was “thrilling” to “see the level of excitement,” surrounding the sequel, as ET Canada reports.

Mandy Moore has also expressed that she’d be “game” to come back to the franchise as Mia’s high school bully, Lana Thomas.

All of these teasers are pretty exciting, but when can we expect the new film?

When will The Princess Diaries 3 be released?

Since the film was announced, there’s not yet a confirmed release date, but Hathaway gave a quick update while speaking with PEOPLE during her appearance at the Sundance Film Festival, according to ET Canada. “I know it’s probably very frustrating. It’s a process that requires patience, and so everybody should consider themselves a part of the movie business now, because this is how long it actually takes to make things,” she said, regarding the long-anticipated gap between movies. So, fans will just have to keep their eyes peeled for any more news about Amelia Mignonette Thermopolis Renaldi and co.

In the meantime, break out your Walkman, throw on a white dress that rivals the likes of Mia, and blast the Krystal Harris banger “SuperGirl.”
