It’s brutal out there — even when you’re a world-famous popstar like Olivia Rodrigo. The 18-year-old singer has always been pretty transparent about what’s going on in her life, good or bad. Whether she’s opening up about breakups in interviews or in her song lyrics, the “brutal” singer has always been pretty candid when it comes to tough times. Now, she’s opening up about how her rise to fame has impacted her mental health in a new interview.
Speaking to Vogue Singapore, Rodrigo shared that being in the spotlight can be “really tough” for her mentally. “I’m grateful for the people who like me for me, and keep me separated from all the noise and tabloids or what people are saying about me on social media. That’s always been a top priority,” she shared.
“It’s funny how recognition changes everything and also changes nothing in your life,” she added. “The problems I was having a year ago are still the problems I’m having now, and things that brought me joy a year ago are still the things that bring me joy now.”

Over the past year, Rodrigo has seen overnight success since the release of her hit “drivers license” back in January. She released her debut album Sour in May, which was critically acclaimed and went to number one on the Billboard charts.
Luckily, despite her struggles, Rodrigo believes that being open and vulnerable doesn’t make her weak. “From a young age, I realized that vulnerability equates to strength, and that’s so true in my songwriting,” she said. “If I wasn’t so comfortable in my emotions, I wouldn’t have made Sour and it wouldn’t have had that same result.”
We love an open and honest queen who prioritizes her wellbeing and knows who she is!
