Undoubtedly, one of the fastest ways to get zen is to dip into a warm, soothing hot spring of mineral bliss. All those negative ions clear the air and instantly elevate our moods (hot springs and waterfalls are especially abundant with these ions). But the fact that these hot springs are often nestled in beautiful locations can’t hurt either. So if you’re looking for a little inspiration of where to take the plunge on your next sojourn, here is a roundup of the most serene springs in the world.

Ma’in Hot Springs, Jordan
Mentioned in the Bible as the spot King Herod once bathed in, Ma’in’s reputation certainly precedes it. Comprised of mineral springs and waterfalls, this ancient desert oasis is located 264 metres below sea level. Today a modern-day spa resort, the natural spring waterfalls into a spa pool, relaxation area, or a main pool area. Do heed the caution that the temperature does rise to a point where it becomes unbearable (over 60 degrees Celsius), so do your research ahead of time.

Mataranka Hot Springs, Northern Territory, Australia

Hot Springs Cove Tofino, Canada
Another Canadian gem, this hot spring is not one you can stumble upon by chance. You’ll definitely want the serenity the spring has to offer after the trip you’ll need to take just to get there. Located on the west coast of Vancouver Island just beyond one of the best beaches you need to see, you’ll first need to find your way to the surf town, Tofino. Once there, you’ll need to arrange a day trip to the cove. This will include a 20 minute plane trip to get to the remote area but it’ll totally be worth it.

Arenal Hot Springs, Costa Rica
There are so many things to do and see in Costa Rica, but among the top for any first-timer is a visit to the Arenal hot springs. The springs came to being by way of the nearby Arenal volcano and its geo-thermal action. You’ll have plenty of choice among 40 odd springs in the region, and each will offer up fantastic views of the (thankfully) retired volcano. Arenal is about a three and a half our drive from San Jose and totally worth it.

Blue Lagoon, Iceland
One of 25 natural wonders of the world, no serene hot springs list would be complete without the Blue Lagoon. That said, do note that as it’s one of the most visited tourist attractions in the country, it can feel a little crowded, and so, we can argue, a wee bit less than serene. Adding to the sense of overcrowding, it will soon see a luxury hotel to help accommodate the visitor demands. So what serene qualities draw in such crowds? Iceland itself is one mysterious island. In addition to the geothermal spa, the colour the lagoon is named for is a milky light shade reminiscent of white sand and caribbean seas. There are minerals such as silica and sulfur that are said to be good for skin conditions such as Psoriasis.

They are drawn to hot springs as much as we are. The location attracts plenty of naturalists who come to enjoy and observe the monkeys in their natural habitat. There is something serene in this in itself.
