Kim Kardashian and the Met Gala have a lot in common — both are known to be rife with buzzworthy moments that take the internet by storm. At this year’s Met Gala, Kardashian was true to form with her talked-about look — and now it seems that Riverdale actress Lili Reinhart is calling the reality star out not for what she was wearing, but for how she says that she fit into it.

What did Kim Kardashian wear to the 2022 Met Gala?
This was the first year that all the Kardashian-Jenner ladies attended the Met Gala, and Kim Kardashian showed up in a historical piece — the iconic dress that Marilyn Monroe wore while singing “Happy Birthday” to President Kennedy in 1962. The gold, floor-length, glimmery dress was simple and elegant, and Kardashian even bleached her hair blonde to commit to the look. However, due to the one-of-a-kind nature of the vintage dress, it could not be altered. So, Kardashian instead changed her body to fit the dress.

On the red carpet, Kardashian admitted during an interview with Vogue that, “I tried [the dress] on and it didn’t fit me. And so I looked at them and I said, ‘Give me, like, three weeks.’ And I had to lose 16 pounds down today to be able to fit this.” This had the internet in an uproar, and celebs also had an opinion on the matter.
Lili Reinhart called out ‘starving yourself for the sake of the Met Gala’
Notably, Reinhart took to her Instagram stories the next day to express how upset she was about the implications of such a statement, although she doesn’t name Kim directly.
“To walk on a red carpet and do an interview where you say how starving you are… because you haven’t eaten carbs in the last month…all to fit in a f**king dress? So wrong. So f**ked on 100s of levels.” Reinhart posted this on May 3, the day following the event.
Reinhart, who has been open about her struggles with mental health and body image, often speaks candidly about things in the industry that are triggering to her. She continues on in another slide that, “I am not generally an angry person but I swear to god, the toxicity of this industry sometimes really gets to me.”
People have both praised Reinhart’s openness about her personal feelings and issues, while others condemn her and claim she’s seeking attention. However, in this instance, it seems that her biggest concern seems to be how a celeb with as big of a platform as Kardashian can, “…openly admit to starving yourself for the sake of the Met Gala. When you know very well that millions of young men and women are looking up to you and listening to your every word.”
Whether or not the onus rests with celebs to watch what they say and who looks up to them is a heavily debated topic online. Kardashian posted a story after the Met where she’s ready to eat pizza and donuts after giving up sugar and carbs for three weeks. Lili Reinhart might be as dedicated to speaking her truth as Kim Kardashian is to a good fashion moment.
