After only one season on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, Jennie Nguyen has been officially fired from the series after fans discovered a series of controversial posts on her Facebook page. Over the span of about six months in 2020, Nguyen had reposted memes, photos and added her own commentary condemning Black Lives Matter, referring to protesters as “violent gangs” and “BLM thugs.”
Fans often call for Real Housewives to be fired around their problematic behaviour, but Bravo seems to be selective around instances where they release statements and take action. But, on January 25, Bravo took a hard stance, condemning Nguyen’s social media posts and effectively firing her.

“Bravo has ceased filming with Jennie Nguyen and she will no longer be a cast member on ‘The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City,’” Bravo said in an official statement posted to Instagram Tuesday. They also took responsibility for not doing a thorough check on her social media presence ahead of hiring her. “We recognize we failed to take appropriate action once her offensive social media posts were brought to our attention.” Nguyen has yet to comment on the firing.

Still, the revelation around Nguyen is shocking and disappointing for fans. She appeared to be a beacon for diversity and teachable moments on the show, proud of her heritage and being the Asian representation the show needed. It’s difficult to make sense of her divisive behaviour, considering what we’ve seen on-screen, but the Facebook posts were so hateful that it left little room for sympathy.
How does Jennie support Trump and support ‘stop Asian hate’ at the same time?! It doesn’t make sense especially when Agent Orange was the reason racists started to ostracize and attack her community when the pandemic started! The self hate is real! #RHOSLC pic.twitter.com/vHzexEyjfz

Reports say that season 3 is underway and that Nguyen was part of the initial cast. It’s unclear how this news will impact the upcoming season, but we can expect Nguyen’s part in it to be short-lived.
