In a new dating app advert for Bumble, English Oscar-nominated actor Helena Bonham Carter dives into why 2020 has been especially tough on singles and why the holidays may just make things even tougher.

Not trying hard enough to find that special someone, comes the accusation by a (we’d like to think) well-meaning gran at a holiday-clad dinner table. Such questions and added pressures aren’t uncommon during this season, especially.

But the truth is, in a year when the pandemic has meant we have to keep apart, even as we try to ahem cozy up, dating has been anything but the regular kind of hard. It’s meant awkward online dates, having to keep a 6-foot distance from our prospective love interest even when we do make it outside, and having to don masks that can obscure meaning and features. 

The Crown staple highlights these and other odd dating trends in the latest Bumble advert that cheekily pokes fun at the dumpster fire that was this unusual year in review, urging singles to take that first step.
