After just two years of marriage, Scheana and Mike Shay have reportedly split.
The past week has been a tumultuous one for the Vanderpump Rules stars, who were married on the show. Last week TMZ reported that Mike went missing and cleaned out the couple’s shared bank account. Just days earlier, the couple had been seen enjoying each other’s company at a Halloween party at SUR.
The story took a bizarre turn when Mike denied the report by posting a photo of himself posing with a current copy of the Los Angeles Times on Instagram. In the post, Shay, who has a history with addiction, claimed he was sober.
“Don’t believe everything you read. I love my wife and will always love my wife. Whatever is going on between us will stay between us!” Mike wrote.
“I love my family and my family loves me and a lot of things have been said out is protection and anger by many people. I just ready for the next chapter in my life!”
According to TMZ, Mike sent Scheana into a panic when he didn’t return home last Wednesday. Concerned he’d had a relapse, Scheana reportedly cut off his credit cards and two days later he cleared out their joint checking account.
The site claimed he has not returned home since the incident, though it’s rumoured he’s simply living with his parents.
The couple met up on Sunday and decided to continue living separately “for the indefinite future,” according to People.
While the magazine claims there’s no talk of divorce yet, In Touch is reporting that the couple is headed in that direction.
“Scheana and Mike are living separately at the moment. He’s been staying with his family. They are headed for a divorce,” a source told In Touch. “Mike needs help. Scheana believes that he’s drinking and smoking pot again.”
“He insisted he’s sober and wants people to believe he’s innocent of everything. As much as Scheana loves him, she just can’t be with someone like that.”
Scheana has yet to directly comment on the split.
As viewers of Vanderpump Rules know, Mike has long struggled with an addiction to prescription pills and at one point was taking several pills a day. That struggled played out on the show, adding to Shay’s discomfort with facing addiction in public.
Scheana and Mike went to high school together but didn’t start dating until years after graduation, in 2010. The couple got engaged in 2013 and wed in a televised ceremony at the Hummingbird Nest Ranch in Santa Susana, California in 2014 during filming for the third season of the show.
