First Open LGBTQ+ Couple in Sports to Appear in ESPN’s Body Issue Got Engaged

WNBA’s Seattle Storm point guard and four-time Olympic gold medalist Sue Bird and two-time World Cup champ Megan Rapinoe are engaged!  

The athlete powerhouse couple announced their engagement on October 30 in Bird’s Instagram post, showing Rapinoe up on one knee against a sunset and Bird with hand outstretched no caption required.

The stars, now together for three years, became the first openly LGBTQ+ couple to appear in ESPN’s ‘Body Issue’ in 2018, and the two have also been vocal on a number of other social and political causes.  

Most recently, the couple has been bubbled together for the 2020 WNBA season in Bradenton, Florida, where Rapinoe’s regularly attended Bird’s games.
