Regé-Jean Page may not be returning to Bridgerton, but fans can officially stop panicking. In a new interview with Variety, the breakout actor confirmed several of his upcoming movies, meaning he will be back on our screens and in our hearts again in no time.

In April, the internet was collectively heartbroken when it was announced Page, 31, would not be reprising his role as the too-hot-to-handle Duke of Hastings in the smash TV show. He opened up about his departure from the record-breaking series, explaining, “Simon was this bomb of a one-season antagonist, to be reformed and to find his true self through Daphne.” He added, “I think one of the bravest things about the romance genre is allowing people a happy ending.”

While there has been gossip about what Page will do next, we do know for certain that he has booked a few high-profile parts. He will be starring in Netflix’s upcoming 2022 film The Gray Man alongside the internet’s other boyfriends, Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans. If being part of that triple threat wasn’t enough, he also has a role in the reboot of the Dungeons & Dragons movie, which will be out in 2023.

There’s definitely been no shortage of rumours about other roles Page should take on. Many people are particularly eager to see Page take the reins as the next James Bond, but he hasn’t revealed if that’s happening. “I can’t talk about the B-word, because I’ve got nothing to say on the B-word. I can’t talk about which jobs I’m not doing, because I’m not doing them, [but] I’m very happy with the work I am doing,” he said.

There has also been talk of him heading to Wakanda with a role in the Black Panther film series, which he also played coy about. “I’ve been a huge fan of the types of movies that the MCU has been putting out, that have made it possible to do the kind of work I’m doing now, both directly and indirectly — with the Russos and with the genre that I’m working in with John and Jonathan,” he said. The Russo brothers directed several Marvel films and are also directing The Gray Man, giving Page an in with the MCU. This definitely makes the Black Panther connection even more plausible.

It came as a shock when it was announced Page was leaving Bridgerton, however, each season of the show follows a different Bridgerton sibling. Daphne Bridgerton’s storyline with Page’s character, Simon Basset, was wrapped up at the end of season one, so it makes perfect sense that Page would move on to other things. Anthony Bridgerton’s love life will instead be the focus of season 2. “It’s a one-season arc. It’s going to have a beginning, middle, end — give us a year,” Page explained to Variety when the news broke. “[I thought] ‘That’s interesting,’ because then it felt like a limited series. I get to come in, I get to contribute my bit and then the Bridgerton family rolls on.”

While everyone from Kim Kardashian to Dionne Warwick was shaken over Page’s Bridgerton exit, he’s clearly just getting started.
