Dove Cameron is opening up about her sexuality. In a new interview with Refinery29, the actress and singer revealed she has always known she was queer.
Last year, the Disney star, 25, went on Instagram Live and told fans she was “super queer” but no one seemed to take this as Cameron coming out. It wasn’t until she was the cover star on Gay Times, where she discussed being bisexual, that people realized she wasn’t straight. “I was never confused about who I was,” she said. “I was really nervous to come out and, one day, I dropped it because I was behaving like somebody who was out and I realized I wasn’t,” she added later on. “When you are who you are, you assume people see that and then you realize, ‘No, I have to come out otherwise people aren’t gonna know.'”

Earlier this week, she reflected on that experience, explaining to Refinery29: “People need me to have a f*cking megaphone,” she said. “I came out a year ago and thought that was going to be it. I didn’t realize that nobody f*cking knew.”
She also explained her sexuality is something she’s known since childhood: “When girls were getting crushes on boys, I was also getting crushes on boys, but I was also getting crushes on girls,” she said.
The star recently celebrated her first Pride Month since publicly coming out. She told Entertainment Tonight: “I feel different being out and having people say things like that to me, like, ‘Happy Pride Month.’ I’m like, ‘Oh, thank you. Thanks,'” she said. “I’m usually the one wishing happy Pride Month and counting myself like an ally. So yeah, it’s special. It’s special. I need to figure out what I’m going to do.”
She even marked the occasion with a steamy music video for her song “Taste of You” in June with Canadian DJ Rezz, in which the two women share a kiss.
