Lizzo isn’t the only A-list celeb looking to connect with a crush on social media these days. As it turns out, Demi Lovato also decided to shoot their shot with a certain Canadian celebrity.
During the Sept. 1 episode of the 4D With Demi Lovato podcast, Schitt’s Creek alum Emily Hampshire revealed to listeners that she met the “Dancing With the Devil” singer when Lovato slid into her DMs.

“You slid in my DMs and you said, ‘Hey, I like you on the show. We should kick it sometime,’” Hampshire, 40, recalled. “And then you said, below it, ‘And by kick it, I mean go on a date. I find you attractive.’ You made it clear it was a date. And I loved that because sometimes that’s confusing. I’m decades older than you, so ‘kick it,’ I was looking it up.”
Lovato, 29, added, “You were like, ‘I’m decades older, I don’t think we’ll find the same things funny.’ I was like, ‘Mm, excuse you’ and I sent you a really good meme.”
According to Hampshire, the former Disney star even went so far as to suggest they could be like longtime Hollywood couple Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor. (Paulson is 46 and Taylor is 76.)
“I thought it was the funniest thing in the whole world because I was a Holland Taylor in that situation,” Hampshire said. “Proud to be.”

While Lovato admitted that the comparison was “not my smoothest move,” they said they were happy the slew of back-and-forth messages led to a genuine friendship.
“A non-binary person can dream,” the singer said. “And they, she — I was a ‘she’ at the time — she was dreaming big. I was like, ‘What’s the worst that could happen?’ And I made a really good friend. You’re a dope friend, and I’m happy we became friends.”

Later in the episode, the conversation turned a little somber as the pair opened up about their past relationships. Last year, Lovato split from fiancé Max Ehrich while Hampshire ended her engagement to songwriter Teddy Geiger in 2019. But the dour note didn’t last for long, and the two friends were soon back to laughing and joking.
But shout-out to Lovato for shooting their shot!
