Why Angus Cloud From ‘Euphoria’ is the Internet’s New Boyfriend

Love it or hate it, Euphoria is everywhere. And no, I don’t mean that metaphorically. The HBO series is like a roller coaster you don’t want to get off of. It makes you uncomfortable by addressing the fact that teenagers are forced to grow up way too fast and deal with adult-sized problems, but it also shines a light on topics like addiction, mental health and sexuality.

The show has blown up for more reasons than one: Zendaya, first and foremost, who made history when she won an Emmy for her role. There are also the iconic hair and makeup looks, which have become trends themselves (glitter eyeshadow anyone?). And, let’s be honest, the actors aren’t too bad to look at.

For some reason, people slept on the character of Fezco (AKA Fez) last season — but boy are they awake now. Season two’s first episode opened everyone’s eyes to the phenomenon that is Fez, played by 23-year-old Angus Cloud. We break down why Angus is this season’s “it” boy and why the internet is obsessed with him.

He’s basically his character in real life

If you’ve had the pleasure of watching Angus Cloud in an interview — and it truly is a pleasure — he’s basically indistinguishable from his Euphoria character. You may think Fez’s Oakland drawl is evidence of Angus’ commitment to his role, but the Oakland native sounds the same in real life. Apart from the accent, he has the same down-to-earth, charmingly goofy vibe that Fez does. Since this is his first big role, it’s refreshing — and often funny —  to see his lack of media training in interviews, which comes through when he answers journalists’ questions in a blunt way that usually leaves them pleasantly surprised. His authenticity makes him all the more interesting.

He was picked off the street to play this part

In an interview with GQ, Angus talks about his experience getting cast in Euphoria. He was living in New York at the time, walking down a street in Manhattan and a casting director just happened to approach him and asked him to come read for the part. He thought he was getting scammed, so he took their info and kept it moving. He ended up giving it a shot, and even changed up the lines in his audition to sound more like himself — and that authenticity won him the role.

He hilariously live-tweets every episode

If you are one of the millions who patiently await Euphoria nights to cure your Sunday scaries and set up the rest of your week for endless memes and makeup tutorials, then you’re not alone. Angus is a Euphoria fan himself, live-tweeting with his fans while the episodes are airing. If you’re an antsy technology addict like myself and are always on your phone when you’re watching something, then scrolling through Twitter during an episode is the best way to feel connected to other Euphoria addicts Angus included.

It really feels like a community during episodes when fans are live-reacting, pointing out things you may not have noticed or even validating the things you loved, and it’s heartwarming to know Angus is in on the action. He even recently tweeted that he’s watching the season for the first time with the audience, which isn’t a surprise because you can tell his hilarious reactions are real.

Spoiler alert: He’s a Lexi + Fezco shipper, just like us

This season is definitely taking risks when it comes to experimenting with new romantic relationships. A controversial one seems to be Nate (Jacob Elordi) and Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) — understandably so — but the universally beloved ship seems to be Lexi (Maude Apatow) and Fez (Lexco? Fezi? We’ll work on it.) In the first episode, the two share a very normal, teenage moment, something you don’t see a lot in Euphoria, a show built on the concept of the shock factor. They have a philosophical conversation about confidence and God, moments before Fez beats the crap out of Nate (again, understandably so). This scene sets up the classic “good girl falls for the bad boy” trope, giving us adorable little moments every episode. Their chemistry is so palpable you can feel the tension through your screen, leaving us with butterflies, craving more.

During his live-tweeting, Angus makes it a point to tweet about his scenes with Maude, and he drops quite a few of their behind-the-scenes moments. He either knows we’re addicted and he’s feeding into it, or he’s a genuine Lexco shipper himself. Either way, he knows what he’s doing.

Between Fez’s growing relationship with Lexi and his love for his partner-in-crime, Ashtray, we can’t help but fall hard and fast for Angus. Here’s to hoping we get more Lexco content and fingers crossed for more behind-the-scenes footage from Angus himself because we can’t get enough of him — or those baby blue eyes.
