This year has definitely been a “ruff” one with the pandemic forcing us to stay home and stay safe. One silver lining to this year is that it has opened the door to pet parenthood for many folx. Those who only ever dreamed of owning a pet have used this extra time at home as an opportunity to bring a new puppy or kitten into their lives.
According to the Mental Health Foundation, the companionship that pets offer can truly help with reducing stress and anxiety. This couldn’t be more true as we find ourselves turning to our pets for comfort during the pandemic.
With thousands of new pets being brought home this year, Trupanion, a leader in pet medical insurance, has narrowed down a list of the top 10 popular names for both cats and dogs from this year. Not surprisingly, one common naming trend has been pandemic-related names for our furry friends — including Corona, Covi, and even Fauci after Dr. Anthony Fauci.
Based on a database of over 530,000 dogs and cats, here are this year’s top names:

So if you’ve just brought home a new furry friend (or planning to) and struggling to pick a name — perhaps this list will serve as inspiration. Or, maybe you’ll even opt for a more pandemic-related name. We hope little Covi brings so much fun and happiness into your life.
