Friendship never ends — at least not for the Spice Girls! To mark the 25th anniversary of their iconic hit “Wannabe,” the British girl group made waves on social media by sparking reunion rumours.

Mel B AKA “Scary Spice” hinted at a reunion on Instagram with a throwback montage. “It’s been a very VERY emotional day, but we WILL be back and that’s my ‘scary’ promise to you all,” she wrote in the caption, signaling that something is in the works.

“Wannabe” was first released in the UK on July 8, 1996, and went on to sell millions of copies worldwide, kicking off “Spicemania.” The fivesome remains the bestselling female group of all time and, according to a University of Amsterdam study, “Wannabe” was named the catchiest pop song of the last 60 years.

Geri Halliwell AKA “Ginger Spice” also marked the song’s anniversary with a heartfelt post. “25 years of ‘Wannabe.’ Wow. The song that changed the lives of five girls from Britain,” she wrote. “The first picture was taken in my back garden on a Sunday — we were all listening to the radio together that day we went to number 3 in the charts!”

The group also celebrated the hit by releasing a new EP last week with the original single cut of “Wannabe” and another remixed version by Junior Vasquez. The new release also includes an unreleased 1995 demo called “Feed Your Love,” that fans had only previously heard snippets of.

Back in 2019, the popstars revealed that an animated movie about them was in the works, so that could be the potential comeback that Mel B was talking about. If you’re feeling sad and low because you’re missing the Spice Girls, hopefully the new music and impending film will take you where you gotta go!
