The Vanderpump couple went through plenty of obstacles before their walk down the aisle.

Tom took a long time to come around to the whole marriage thing. Like, remember when he bought Katie a puppy to try to stall? He figured it would buy him a year and a half of pushing off the engagement.

Jax vs. Katie
Remember when Jax was gunning for Katie? He wanted Tom to break up with her so bad, he – allegedly! – concocted a story about Katie *motorboating* a guy’s crotch out at a club.

Tom vs. Katie
Tom’s friend leading a crusade against her did NOT sit well with Katie. She was like: “Jax, grow the f--k up, get the f--k out of my life and just f--k off.”

Jax vs. Katie
It got pretty ugly. Jax said he wanted to watch Schwartz “rail” a girl in front of Katie.
5 / 14
Just as the rumours about Katie cheating were swirling, Kristen let everyone know it was in fact TOM who cheated on Katie, not the other way around. Surprise! Twist!

Scheana pipes in
Then Scheana told Katie she saw Tom kiss one of her friends, but Katie still didn’t believe it.
7 / 14
Tom came clean: he said he didn’t sleep with anyone, but he did kiss another woman.
8 / 14
After the cheating incident, Tom and Katie went to couples therapy and agreed to “start a new narrative” about their relationship. Things started to look up.
9 / 14
Tom’s second admission
Then things went crashing down again. Tom admitted he made out with ANOTHER, different woman.

Jax pushes it
After Tom came clean (again!) we thought it was over, but then Jax made it seem very clear that it wasn’t just a kiss, and Tom had sex with the woman.

Ring on a string
Just when we thought it couldn’t get worse, Tom’s way of apologizing was to give Katie a “ring on a string” – aka a necklace with a promise ring. Katie was confusing, looking at the ring, like: ummmm, are we engaged?
12 / 14
We’ll be honest: for a while we didn’t think Tom and Katie were going to make it. Like, for example when Tom said things like, “The idea of being with one person for the rest of your life, it sounds so bad to me.” Yikes.
13 / 14
After all of that, Katie still wanted to marry Tom. But she didn’t want to wait: she gave him a an ultimatum – ask within six months, or she was moving on with her life.

Tom finally pops the question
When Tom finally popped the question, he did it right. He orchestrated a whole scene where a proposal started at another table, then he jumped in, grabbed the ring, and got down on one knee for Katie. Even after a bumpy ride, it was a sweet moment.
