Whether through inheritance or merit, these pets  have a higher net worth than any of us will achieve in a lifetime. Here is how the cats, dogs, chicken (yes, chicken) and bear rank.

  1. Pontiac (Net worth: $5 million)

We know Betty White is an animal lover, working to advocate for several related charities for years now. But it’s her golden retriever pup (born in 2006) that is her pride and job. In fact, The Golden Girls alum has a trust fund set up for the American-born pooch for when she passes away.

  1. Bart the Bear 2 (Little Bart) (Net worth: $6 million)

While many animals on this list may have come into their wealth by the sheer chance of being taken in by wealthy people themselves, Bart the Bear 2 has put in his time to earn his millions. While we personally aren’t fans of wild animals being forced to do mankind’s bidding, this particular bear has made a name for himself appearing in several Hollywood films, including Dr. Dolittle 2, Evan Almighty, Into the Wild, and We Bought a Zoo as well as Game of Thrones where he went against Jaime Lannister and Brienne of Tarth. Born in the U.S. in 2000, this Alaskan Brown Bear and his owners, Dough and Lynne Seus, are responsible for his illustrious acting career.

  1. Conchita (Net worth: $11.3 million)

While every dog may have her day, this particular chihuahua was at the centre of quite a quarrel after her real estate mogul owner Gail Posner left her a hefty inheritance. Living her best life, Conchita enjoys the lux side of life, including weekly spa treatments and wearing – you know – $10,000 Cartier necklaces the rest of us could never afford.

  1. Blackie (Net worth: $12.5 million)

Blackie the cat (so named for his shiny black coat) at one point made it into the Guinness World Records for being the world’s wealthiest cat, thanks to his owner Ben Rea. The last remaining survivor of the multi-millionaire, he took the lion’s share of this f(el)ine inheritance.

  1. Tommassino (Net worth: $13 million)

Another kitty that prefers a life out of the public eye, Tommassino is also simple in taste: Biscuits and milk will do. But that doesn’t take away from the wealthy Italian’s cat’s inheritance, the entirety of which was left behind by Maria Assunta: from homes to villas, all across Italy, the world is this cat’s oyster.

  1. Gigoo (Net worth: $15 million)

We know there are cat people and dog people, but apparently there are also chicken people. One of these chicken people is British multi-millionaire publisher Miles Blackwell who left the proceeds of his recently-sold business ($15 million of it) to this (c)lucky chicken, Gigoo.

  1. Sadie, Sunny, Lauren, Layla and Luke (Net worth: $30 million)

If you’re a fan of Oprah, you may already be familiar with one of the richest Women of Colour and her pups. In fact, this dog-lover has quite a few: Golden retrievers Luke and Layla, cocker spaniel Sadie and springer spaniels Sunny and Lauren. She regularly posts about them, and loves them so much she has earmarked $30 million in her will as a trust fund just for their care.

  1. Olivia Benson (Net worth: $97 million)

Perhaps it only makes sense that Taylor Swift, the self-proclaimed “cat lady” who also starred in the movie Cats (yes, that one), should have a cat who is a celebrity in her own right. The Scottish Fold kitty (named for Swift’s favourite Law & Order: Special Victims Unit character) has appeared in adverts for Diet Coke, Keds and more, earning more than her keep.

A post shared by Grumpy Cat (@realgrumpycat)

  1. Grumpy Cat a.k.a. Tardar Sauce (Net worth: $99.5 million)

If you were anywhere near the internet in and around 2012, you would have heard of Grumpy Cat; with its perma-crabby expression, this mixed-breed kitty (nee Tardar Sauce) won her crowd when her pic went viral. You wouldn’t need to search for long before stumbling on the many (many) memes and parodies that followed. The kitty passed in 2019, but in the six short years she lived, she managed to amass a fortune many of us can only dream of. From merchandising to even having a film made after her, Grumpy Cat leaves behind a legacy that in many ways signalled a new era for digital media, and for the money-making potential that exists for animals online.

  1. Gunther IV (Net worth: $375 million)

While Grumpy Cat is certainly ahead by a large margin of many pets on this list, Gunther IV sweeps away his nearest competition nearly four-fold. This German-born German Sheppard came into his wealth after inheriting it from his father, Gunther III, who in turn inherited the wealth from countess Karlotta Leibenstein. This regal doggo has his own butler and personal maid, enjoys steak and caviar, and also owns several million-dollar homes.
