I’m ashamed to admit that I can spend hours at a time scrolling through TikTok. One thing leads to another and before you know it, it’s 4AM and I’m wondering if I should hang LED lights in my room. The time isn’t completely a waste without those hours of mindless scrolling, I wouldn’t be able to bring you this brilliant list of beauty trends that have been taking over the FYP (‘for you page’ for those who aren’t on the app). Whether you want to snatch your face just a little bit tighter or play with makeup in a way that’s completely out of the ordinary, read on to see how TikTok has been changing the beauty game.

1. The flawless foundation hack

@sarahmagusaraThis actually worked 😳😍♬ original sound – Jarida

What’s more annoying than applying foundation and feeling like a cake face? The dream is to have your foundation sit so flawlessly that it feels like your own skin. This unusual hack helps you get there. Start with a moisturizer, apply a translucent powder, a few mists of setting spray, apply primer and then your foundation. Sounds completely backwards, but if it’ll get your makeup smooth, long-lasting and creaseless, it’s worth a try.

2. The magical colour-theory foundation blend

Time to play with colour. We sometimes forget that makeup is an artform, and just like when you’re painting, it’s important to understand the colour wheel. That’s where colour theory comes in where you can create the perfect shade with the right blend of colours. This Tik Tok hack involves a combination of unexpected colours, that when blended, magically becomes a silky foundation shade.

3. The colour placement trick

Are you guilty of applying your concealer in an upside-down triangle? Most of us are. The shape actually highlights the lowest point of your cheeks, bringing your face down when it’s all blended out. Try this trick — applying the concealer to the inner corner of your eye and then in a sweeping upward motion toward the end of your eye. Once blended, your face will appear lifted and tightened instead of droopy and tired.

4. The makeup placement switch-up

Forget what you’ve been taught about contouring — as this Tik Tok-er @katebake7 says — this hack is going to change your makeup game. She starts with applying a bright concealer and dark contour shade, blends it out with a dampened beauty blender (she wets hers with setting spray), then applies foundation. The final look is a smooth finish without the harsh lines that usually come with contouring.

5. Bouncy ’90s waves

When the Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer Hot Air Brush came on the Tik Tok scene, it sold out everywhere as womxn scrambled to get their hands on one. It seems like the easiest way to get these layered bouncy waves, reminiscent of the ’90s. Simply twist the brush away from or toward your face as you pull it through your wet strands and watch as your hair transforms into voluminous, romantic locks.

6. Jackie Aina’s genius smudge-proof mask hack

Not only is this Tik Tok hilarious, but it’s surprisingly practical. Perhaps more annoying than merely wearing a mask is all the makeup that rubs off on the inside. Jackie Aina calls this hack ‘bulletproof makeup,’ and she’s probably right — when she’s done her makeup doesn’t transfer onto her mask despite being pressed on her face. It could be science or sorcery — whatever it is, this hack is worth noting.

7. Foxy eye makeup trend

Let’s start by saying, Asian womxn have been rocking this foxy eye trend for years, enhanced by their naturally beautiful eye shapes. Now that everyone else has hopped on the foxy eye train, it’s a beauty “trend.” Like Black people and plump lips, those who aren’t blessed with this natural attribute find creative ways with makeup to ‘get the look.’

8. Euphoria-inspired makeup

Be careful — this Tik Tok trend can bring you down a dark and glittery rabbit hole. These Tik Tok-ers start with a fresh face then fall backwards to smoothly transition into a look inspired by the HBO series Euphoria. The signature purple lighting adds to the mesmerizing vibe that will make you want to get off your phone and try it yourself. If you have rhinestones and glitter, you’re well on your way.

9. The nose snatch

This Tik Tok trick will give your nose a whole new shape without having to go under the knife. It involves a dark contour, highlighting with concealer in just the right spots, and setting with translucent powder. Follow the makeup placement exactly to seemingly alter your bone structure. Remember, this is all for fun. It’s healthy to learn to love and accept your natural facial features before thinking about changing them.

10. Soap brow trend

@millieleerTrying soap brows for the first time 🤔🤍 #foryoupage #fyp #viral #makeup #brows♬ original sound – SUNRAE 🌞

Many esteemed makeup artists actually prefer using soap to eyebrow gel for its hold and durability. That little tidbit of knowledge made its way to Tik Tok where users can be seen dipping their brow brush into a bar of soap, brushing their eyebrow hairs upward and shaping them to perfection. This trend is as easy as it gets, so if you’re going to try anything from this list, it might as well be this one.
