When social distancing started and countries began going into lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, celebrities received a lot of backlash. For most regular folk stuck in tiny apartments and wondering how to feed their families amid job losses, it left a bitter taste to see some famous person sitting in their huge mansion — telling us that we’re all in this together. However, many celebrities have also been using their star power for good. They have released charity songs, held benefit concerts and donated memorabilia for fundraisers. Some have also dug deep into their own pockets or have thought about the most meaningful ways in which they could help out. Here are some of the most generous celebs during COVID.

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively
Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively just keep on giving. They started off by donating $1 million to be split between Food Banks Canada and Feeding America. Later they donated an undisclosed amount to Ottawa Food Bank. Then Ryan, who is one of the wealthiest Canadian actors, teamed up with hockey legend Hayley Wickenheiser to donate PPE to healthcare workers in the Greater Toronto Area.
In February 2021, both Feeding America and Food Banks Canada confirmed that Lively and Reynolds have donated another $500,000 to each organization by releasing the statement, "Our heartfelt thanks and gratitude ONCE AGAIN to Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively for pledging another $500K in support of our COVID-19 Response Funds."
The couple also donated $250,000 to Covenant House Vancouver and another $250,000 to Covenant House Toronto before the holidays. Reynolds said in a statement, "For us, helping Covenant House this way isn't a donation, but an investment in compassion and empathy." The organization revealed that Reynolds, who was born in Vancouver, is a "long-time friend" to the organization. Their donation will help to support homeless and at-risk youth — including warm meals and medical attention.
