"Because I live in a quiet suburb, I go to Toronto for excitement and big city experiences. I like to check the event calendar at the Rebel Entertainment Complex to see when my favourite reggae/soca artists are having a concert there, or when they're having a "Soca or Die" event where I can dance the night away to my favourite Carribean tunes. The first weekend of August is Caribana weekend, so lookout for event tickets, AirBnBs and hotels ahead of time because they sell out quick! Jump and wave a Carribean flag at the parade on the Saturday and take in the incredible costumes along the way. "Marie Curtis Park — This is a place I frequent a lot with my kids, and husband. There's a big enough city park with a jungle gym. There's also a nice splash pad with a little wading pool (bring aqua shoes!). There's also a large field with huge trees, great to sit in the sun or shade and have a picnic with family and friends. There's a lot of parking available if you get there early enough, but don't park on the street as you will get ticketed by the city. What's so nice is that Lake Ontario is just a few steps away, and there's a little sandy beach that you can walk along. "I love Toronto’s coffee bar culture, and my favourite newly-opened East end spot is Morning Parade Coffee Bar. Great art on the wall by the talented Justin Rousseau, and personable service elevates flavourful coffee to something more. Charming nooks offer an amazing vibe for stimulating conversation with my favourite people. On a nice day, you can walk over to Woodbine beach — about 20 minutes by foot. If I’m sticking closer to home, I’d take the Greenbelt Trail by bike to the Evergreen Brick Works and explore the weekend market.
