It’s not like we’ve never seen Meghan Markle before she started dating Prince Harry, but we never really appreciated her fashion sense — until now. Of course, not everyone can be Meghan, otherwise we’d all have royal fiances and easy-breezy style. Her fashion sense is so innate, one can’t help but look to her for inspiration. And maybe, just maybe, some of it will rub off on us.

Emerald Erdem
Meghan loves her coats, so it is no surprise that she wore a custom Erdem number to celebrate Commonwealth Day in London. A fan of the Canadian designer, we love to see her step out this emerald coat, with gorgeous beaded floral details, for this particular event.

Very vintage
Arriving in New York for her baby shower, Meghan rocked an all-black look that was anything but basic. At a glance, it might appear as a simple pair of black skinny-jeans and taupe tote, but the vintage silk trapeze coat by Courrèges brings a 60’s swing to the ensemble.

Family matters
Unlike Kate who wore a fairly inexpensive Seraphine dress, which cost £99, Meghan chose a navy dress from Jason Wu, which cost about £1,370. But they're more alike than they seem: just see all the times they were style twins.

White hot
For their engagement photocall, Meghan stood next to Harry in this chic, white trench coat by Line the Label, which she wore over a forest green dress and nude heels and earrings by Birks. That's the moment we knew there would be nothing conservative about her fashion going forward. Good thing white is one of her many colours.

Pretty in pink
Meghan’s affinity for neutral tones is seen here in this blush-pink Brandon Maxwell dress and blazer combo. This look, from the designer's Spring 2019 collection is elegant, effortless and perfect for an appearance at the National Theatre.

Oh, Canada
Her love of Canadian brands is strong. We love what she wore when she joined Harry at the UK Team Trials for the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 wearing an army (we see what you did there, Meghan) green coat by Babaton for Aritzia over her Invictus polo and Mother jeans. The pumps were questionable, but whatevs.

To the maxi
For her first official appearance with Prince Harry in Nottingham, Megs wore a flared Joseph maxi skirt that hit right at the top of her slouchy Kurt Geiger boots. Add in her body-skimming Wolford sweater and it was unlike anything we had ever seen out of the Palace in a long, long time.

She wears the pants
Meghan shocked everyone during her second royal appearance — by wearing pants. The flared Burberry trousers were offset by her Marks & Spencers sweater and stunning taupey-grey Smythe coat. And her hair was in a messy bun, her first of many. Minds. Blown.

Wrap it up
Her soon-to-be-sister-in-law Kate might have a love of big shiny buttons (just take a look at Kate's best winter coats) but Meghan has her own fashion passion: wrap coats. All it takes is a tie of the belt to keep everything in or show off her outfit underneath like the stunning camel Sentaler on Christmas Day.

Black and blue
While some still don't believe these two work together, Meghan is not one of them as she paired her J.Crew navy and cream coat with black cropped cigarette pants and a cream cowl-neck sweater.

Lacy lunch
Markle is the gift that keeps on giving. The former actress wore a Self-Portrait lace number to the Queen's annual Christmas luncheon. It sounds daring but it was perfect and sophisticated enough for the occasion.

Sheer engagement
She wore a Ralph & Russo couture gown for her and Harry's epic engagement photos, which resulted in some raised eyebrows and pearl-clutching — partly because of its price tag (£53,000) but also because it has some see-through parts. But, come on. The silk organza skirt, tulle ruffles, and gold feather thread-work and it was magnificent. And it's not like she wore it to brunch; it was ideal for the photoshoot.

Rock star
Her plum Mackage leather jacket and burgundy Wilfred Beaune Dress by Aritzia proved she could be edgy and classy all at once.

Black is the new black
Wearing head-to-toe black might seem drab but with all different textures — the Stella McCartney wrap coat, trousers by Hiut Denim and those velvet Tabitha Simmons boots — she was anything but boring.

Tuxedo royal
For her first gala, Markle opted for a pantsuit from Alexander McQueen (a Kate Middleton fave) and white blouse from Tuxe that managed to be both tailored and feminine, partially thanks to those suede Manolo Blahniks. Jaws dropped.

Keeping it simple
As far as jewelry goes, Markle keeps it delicate and dainty, from the bracelet that matches Harry's to tasteful earrings from Birks. Because she knows her engagement ring is so bananas, to keep everything else on the DL.

Bag lady
Whether it's a forest green Demelier London bag to add a punch of colour to a monochrome black ensemble, or a burgundy Charlotte Elizabeth handbag to go with some killer velvet pumps, she knows how to let her accessories do the talking.

Creamy goodness
For Commonwealth Day, she wore a cream dress by Amanda Wakeley over a navy sheath dress and matching suede pumps. She paired her Mulberry bag with a fascinator by Stephen Jones and this is as royal as it gets.

Keeping it casual
For her first joint pre-engagement appearance with Harry, at the Invictus Games in Toronto, Meghan wore Mother jeans and the coincidentally named "Husband Shirt" from Misha Nonoo. And flats. See, she does know how to wear them. She just knows how to pick her moments.

Knows her audience
For her visit to Edinburgh Castle while in Scotland, Meghan wore a Burberry tartan coat over Veronica Beard wide-leg trousers and topped it off with a delicate cross-body bag.

Not just Irish eyes smiling
For their first official joint visit to Northern Ireland, Markle wore a Mackage coat over a Victoria Beckham sweater and emerald skirt by Greta Constantine. Her commitment to separates is admirable but it's the velvet Jimmy Choo pumps that we want in our shoe closet right now.
