Think about your bookshelf or reading nook at home: for many of us, our bookshelves are a display of all the titles we’ve ever read — creased pages and folded spines and all — curated on a shelf to remind us of every lesson learned through each page, every story shared. For High School Musical’s Ashley Tisdale, however, that isn’t necessarily always the case.

Tisdale went viral earlier this week after a recent moment caught on film for Architectural Digest’s Open Door photoshoot video series, where she admitted that she had her husband go out and enough books to fill their bookshelf just a few days prior to the shoot.

“These bookshelves, I have to be honest… actually did not have books in them a couple days ago,” Tisdale said while touring her LA home. “I had my husband go to the bookstore and I was like, ‘You need to get 400 books.’”

While she has received backlash for the comment, Tisdale responded to one user on Twitter, saying: “Let’s clear this up. There are some of my books from over the years in there but yea [sic] 36 shelves that hold 22 books I did not have and any interior designer would have done the same. They do it all the time, I was just honest about it.”

Tweeting the next day in good spirits, Tisdale said: “Sorry I haven’t been reading everybody’s tweets, I’ve recently just got a lot of new books to get through.”

Tisdale does read, taking to Twitter afterward to share a list of her favourite self-help and mental health-related books while encouraging fans to join her weekly book club every Saturday at 9 AM. She further added: “(and p.s. if you’re going to buy 400 books, don’t forget to shop independently.).”

The shelf looks great, Tisdale, and now it’s time to get reading — we can’t wait for some good book recommendations.
