When Kim Cattrall didn’t return for And Just Like That…, fans of Samantha Jones were understandably upset. From tweets to TikToks, Sex and the City fans pointed out that the beloved character’s absence was felt in the new spinoff series. When the show aired, Cattrall stayed quiet, not saying if she would ever return to the reboot as Samantha. Now, in a new interview with Variety, she’s setting the record straight: she’s done with the franchise.

Cattrall revealed that she still loves the character and that “parts of her are with me. I played her, and I loved her. I felt ultimately protective of her.” However, she also shared that she was never asked to reprise her role in And Just Like That… “I made my feelings clear after the possible third movie, so I found out about it like everyone else did — on social media,” she said.

The actress also noted that she had not watched the show, although she has heard some of the fan reactions and concluded that “really the greatest compliment I could have as an actor is to be missed.”

“It’s powerful to say no,” she said.

Fans were holding out hope that because Samantha still had somewhat of a relationship with Carrie — albeit via text — on And Just Like That…, Cattrall might change her mind and return. But Cattrall firmly stated that she will not be coming back. “It’s powerful to say no,” she said.

While we might all be missing Samantha, at least fans of the star can watch her on TV in her current shows How I Met Your Father and Queer as Folk.
