Reaching “EGOT” status (AKA, having won four of the major American entertainment awards: an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony award) is a pretty rare achievement (in fact, as of this writing, only 17 people have managed the feat) — but Adele just got one step closer — thanks to her first Emmy win.
What did Adele win an Emmy for?
On Sunday, September 4, Adele won an Emmy at the 2022 Creative Arts Emmy Awards for outstanding variety special (pre-recorded) for her November 2021 CBS television special Adele: One Night Only. The special, which won Emmys in four other categories as well, featured 10 performances and a sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey.
The singer shared her joy (and the update on her road to EGOT-status) on social media over the weekend, according to Billboard.
“Bloody hell I’m pleased as punch! Thank you @mrbenwinston for dropping this round to me this afternoon!! Trust me to officially have an EGO,” she wrote on Instagram and Twitter.
“Thank you so much @televisionacad, I’m so so honored to receive this. Big up to everyone involved. @griffithobservatory thank you for letting me sing up on your mountain and big love to all the other nominees x,” Adele added.

How close is Adele to becoming an EGOT?
Adele has already won a whopping 15 Grammys and an Oscar (she won an Academy Award for best original song for “Skyfall” back in 2013). So, with her Emmy (and, thus, “EGO”) now secured, Adele only needs a Tony to complete the EGOT.
