How to Get the Glowy, Clean Girl Makeup Look

If you’ve scrolled through TikTok recently, chances are you’ve likely seen someone doing a clean girl makeup routine. It’s a popular trend as of late thanks to the rise of the clean girl aesthetic and for good reason: it’s an elevated take on no-makeup makeup, and it makes you look effortless.

The trademarks of clean girl makeup include glowy skin, glossy lips, fluffy brows and minimal eye makeup (think: celebs like Hailey Bieber or Yara Shahidi). Gone are the days of heavy contouring and baking popularized by the Kardashians. Instead, the minimalist look is in. And the best part? No matter who you are, it’s a fairly simple look that can be achieved with only a few products.

Taking our cues from TikToker @xolizahbeauty — whose clean girl aesthetic video went viral — these are tips on how to achieve the clean girl look.

Step one: Start with a clean base

To have makeup that looks natural, you need to start by prepping your skin. This means cleansing and applying your moisturizer and SPF. Once you’ve done that, feel free to go in with a primer if you want, but it’s not necessary — in the case of this makeup look, less really is more.

Step 2: Go in with a creamy concealer

Apply a creamy concealer to areas such as your chin and under your eyes. If you have any blemishes that you want to cover up, apply it to those areas as well. Then blend it all together with a damp beauty blender for a seamless look that looks like your own skin, only better — no foundation needed. If you want, also feel free to set those areas with some powder.

Step 3: Brush those brows

Whether you want to simply fill in your brows or brush them out, that’s up to you. But a good brow gel will lock them in place either way. Ensure that their shape frames your face for the best results.

Try this natural brow gel from Bobbi Brown to help keep everything tidy.

Step 4: Add some blush (highlighter is optional)

Part of the clean girl aesthetic involves looking healthy and flushed, and blush is the perfect way to get a pop of colour on your cheeks. You can also add a touch of highlighter to make your cheekbones really pop if you want, but if you truly want that minimalistic look then blush is more than enough.
