If you haven’t heard of Marie Kondo by now, you’re probably living under a rock. The Japanese organizing consultant has written four books – including The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up – which have collectively sold over 11 million copies in 40 countries. There’s also her binge-worthy TV show Tidying Up with Marie Kondo.
Her credentials don’t end there. In 2015, she was named one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People and she has hundreds of certified KonMari consultants helping to tidy up and “spark joy” in people’s homes all over the world. If you want to become a consultant, you have to attend a seminar taught by Kondo, which costs $2,200. Then there’s a $500 annual membership fee.
Kondo is definitely making a cultural impact: thrift stores around the world are seeing a surge in donations from people who are using the KonMari method of decluttering their own homes. There are also plenty of Marie Kondo-inspired organization essentials being sold in stores.
So how much is this tidying empire worth? If you’ve been Googling “Marie Kondo net worth” too, we’re here to share that that figure is a whopping $8 million. And, that’ll likely continue to increase. Not only is the home organization market expected to be worth $11.8 billion by 2021, people love Kondo’s show, books and organizing products, so there’s no stopping her now.
