Britney Spears has returned to IG after a brief hiatus, but some fans have already voiced their concerns over the latest carousel of images the embattled pop singer shared.

The star, who recently announced her engagement to longtime beau, Sam Asghari, posted a series of images on Sept. 20. A couple of the snaps were selfies which featured Spears wearing an embroidered floral top.

“Some shots from my weekend getaway to celebrate my engagement with my … holy s–t … FIANCÉ,” Spears wrote in the caption. “I still can’t believe it !!!!” After announcing their engagement on Sept. 12, the couple took some time off in Palm Springs, Calif., for a romantic getaway.

But dedicated fans, many of whom are part of the #FreeBritney movement, had plenty of questions.

Many were quick to point out that the photos didn’t appear recent since Spears’ engagement photos, taken only days prior, featured the singer with bright red tips in her hair. Yet, she was entirely blonde in the Palm Springs photos.

“Wasn’t ur hair red like 5 days ago,” one fan comment read. Another follower wrote: “Whoever the person administering Britney’s account right now… Britney’s hair was red when she got engaged.”

Spears appeared to address the hair questions in her caption, adding that she “took these in Palm Springs with clip in extensions.”

This latest conspiracy theory comes as no surprise given the plethora of fan-led blog posts and social videos claiming that Spears isn’t in control of her own Instagram account and has been secretly sending them messages via subtle hand gestures and clothing colours.

Last week, Spears deactivated her Instagram account, revealing on Twitter that she was “taking a little break” to enjoy some much-need R&R with fiancé Asghari, who has supported her throughout her fraught court battle with her father, Jamie, over her lengthy conservatorship. The next court hearing is scheduled for Sept. 29.

This will be the third marriage for Spears, who was also briefly wed to childhood pal Jason Alexander in 2004, followed by a highly-publicized relationship with backup dancer Kevin Federline. She and Federline divorced in 2006 after two years of marriage. The former couple share sons Sean Preston, 16, and Jayden James, 15.
