Having kids was like “walking into the light”
For years, the focus of Fredrik's life was work. As fans of MDLNY know, he clawed his way to the top of of the hyper-competitive New York real estate scene – and not without a few scraps with his costars and fellow brokers along the way.
Fatherhood was an instant and drastic change for the reality star, who told People becoming a dad totally changed his perspective. “I don’t really miss life before…it’s like walking into the light,” he said. "I look back [and] it was very dark.”

Milla and Fredrik Jr. are the happy destination of a long, long journey
Fredrik and Derek's attempts to start a family began long before their surrogate conceived with Milla and Fredrik Jr. In 2015, the MDLNY broker revealed the previous surrogate he and Derek had hired had suffered a miscarriage.
In an emotional Facebook post, Fredrik wrote, “I’m sad to share we’ve had a failed pregnancy. I have cried so much that I can’t cry anymore. We were pregnant with twins but we’re not anymore."

The twins were worth the heartache and struggle
Despite the heartache the couple went through after the miscarriage, they continued to try, eventually enlisting a new doctor and a new surrogate. Once their twins finally arrived, Fredrik told People the journey was worth it.
“They’ve already turned gravity completely upside down for us as the new centre of everything...The difficult journey here was so worth it and all happened for a reason — thank God we didn’t give up! I didn’t know I could love this much."

Fredrik’s not playing favourites
Fredrik is being extra conscious to ensure the kids don't feel left out by either of their dads – which means absolutely no playing favourites. On an episode of Watch What Happens Live, Fredrik explained, "Milla is my biological daughter and Freddy is biologically [husband Derek Kaplan]’s, so it’s very important not to gravitate towards Milla...so no favourite.”

Love beyond words
Four days after the twins' birth, Fredrik posted an elated message on Instagram, writing, “We’re so in love with them. There really are no words. I still cry often...just looking at them, feeding them, kissing them. They’re so perfect, they really are everything. I still can’t believe it.”

Fredrik’s a Twiniversity scholar
Even before the twins arrived, Fredrik was taking his role as father super seriously, hitting the books to learning everything he could about babies – and being a parent to twins.
“I read all the baby books, started changing diapers on dolls, I even went to Twiniversity. It’s like going to college to learn about having twins,” he told People. (and, yes, Twiniversity is a real thing!)

Derek’s now a dad of three
While Fredrik's a first time dad, Derek's actually been a father for several years. About nine years ago, Derek donated his sperm to a lesbian couple he knew in his days living in London. The couple got pregnant on their first try and had a boy named Kai who Derek has remained close with ever since.

Twins are double the joy…but also double the work
Fredrik was quick to talk about the joys of fatherhood, but he's also been candid about the amount of work it takes to raise twins. “Sometimes I think those two have a little side meeting,” the MDLNY star told People. “They’ll decide, ‘Okay, today you’re going to be bad and then when you fall asleep, I’m going to be bad.’ They’re in cahoots! Twins are double the work, but definitely double the joy!”

The twins changed Fredrik’s outlook on parenthood
Becoming a dad changed how Fredrik sees his own family. “I appreciate parents. I appreciate my own parents and my brother,” he told People. “Looking at family, looking at everything differently.”
He also told the mag he's not passing the buck on diaper duty to Derek or a nanny. “I’m actually really good. I do it quickly,” Eklund said.

The couple may expand their family again
So what's next for this family of four? It sounds like Fredrik may still have baby fever. "I don’t want to go backwards in life. I wanna move forward, I wanna look forward,” he said to People adding, “Maybe I should have more kids.”
