Get ready to get nostalgic (and maybe even a little scared!): the first look at the latest installment in the Scream franchise is here – and it looks more horrifying than ever.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the teaser for Scream VI follows “four young survivors from this year’s Scream once again fearing for their safety.” The high-stakes clip leaves us with plenty of questions, especially following the appearance of a brand new Ghostface mask. So, here’s everything we know about Scream VI so far.
There will be a new Ghostface mask
As Collider points out, the new trailer and teaser poster unveil a haunting new Ghostface image, highlighting a new, weathered mask design. Unlike the usual, stark-white mask, this version has definitely seen better days – meaning this may not be the killer’s first murdering spree.
“It will all make sense in the context that you see it in the movie,” Co-Director Tyler Gillett explains to EW. “That was another one of the really interesting risks and creative approaches in this movie. It’s meta in a different way, and the mask very much factors into that.”
Co-Director Matt Bettinelli-Olpin adds that the decision “was not an arbitrary choice.”
Who will star in Scream VI?
A Scream movie isn’t a Scream movie without Courteney Cox – and horror fans will be pleased to hear that she’ll be joining the quartet in NYC, once again reprising her role as Gale Weathers. Hayden Panettiere will also return to the Scream universe as Kirby Reed, and franchise star Roger L. Jackson will once again voice Ghostface.
The new Scream movie will also see the return of Melissa Berrera as Sam, Jasmin Savoy Brown as Mindy, Mason Gooding as Chad and, of course, Jenna Ortega as Tara. Except this time around, they’ve left the quaint (and creepy) Woodsboro and are headed to New York.
“They have all come to New York to go to school,” Gillett adds. “One of the things that was so exciting to us was bringing the story and bringing this slasher icon into a new location. I think across the board, for the writers Guy [Busick] and Jamie [Vanderbilt] as well, this was such a fun opportunity to explore what that would feel like, bringing the world of Scream into that setting.”
While the movie’s setting is New York, Scream VI was actually filmed in Canada. In fact, the movie was shot in Quebec’s very own Montreal.
In terms of new cast members, Dermot Mulroney, Tony Revolori and Samara Weaving will all make their debut appearance in the franchise during Scream VI. They’ll star alongside Jack Champion, Devyn Nekoda, Liana Liberato and Josh Segarra.
Who won’t be returning to Scream VI?
Sad news, Scream fans: Neve Campbell – renowned for her long-time role as Sidney Prescott – will not appear in the new film because of a salary dispute.
“Sadly, I won’t be making the next Scream film,” Campbell explained at the time. “As a woman, I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream. I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.”

When will Scream VI be released?
Despite the devastating departure of Campbell, there is some good news in store. We don’t have too long of a wait ahead of us, as the brand-new Scream film arrives in theaters on March 10, 2023.
