5 Things to Do and See in Santorini, Greece

5 Things to Do and See in Santorini, Greece

With more than two million visitors every year, the tiny island of Santorini has become one of the world’s most popular destinations according to Conde Naste Traveler. It’s a dream escape for so many people, including myself. That’s why I was so excited to head there last June. One of the Cyclades islands in the Aegean Sea, Santorini may be small in size — but there are many things to do on.  After spending two amazing days on this island, these are some of the things I would add to your list to experience.

Head to the Red Bicycle restaurant for a cocktail

The Red Bicycle is one of the most popular restaurants in Santorini, mostly because of its amazing view. It sits high up on the cliffs of Oia, making it a great place to grab a cocktail overlooking the village. I wouldn’t recommend it for sunset as it’s facing the wrong way, but the view of the village itself is worth the time if you care to enjoy a well-mixed cocktail or two.

Try out traditional Greek Tapas

You can’t go to Santorini without getting a taste of their delicious Greek Tapas — one quick Google search pointed us in the direction of a restaurant called Melitini. It gets very busy, so you may want to try to make a reservation in advance. If you’re a cheese fan, I highly recommend any of their saganaki dishes!

Hike from Fira to Oia

This was one of the things I wish we had the chance to do while we were in Santorini, which is why I’m including it on this list! If you have enough time, you should absolutely try to do the hike from Fira to Oia! The hike usually takes people about three hours, and there are plenty of places to stop and enjoy the view along the way. It’s one of the most recommended things to do on the island because the views are rumoured to be the most remarkable you will see on the whole island. If I get the chance to go back, this would be at the top of my list!

Walk the steps to Amoudi Bay

In the village of Oia, there are 300 steps leading down to Amoudi Bay. The bay is known for its beautiful clear water and its incredible seafood. It’s quaint and tucked away from the large crowd of tourists above. It’s also a great little swimming and snorkeling spot for those of you who are a little more adventurous!

Take an ATV Tour around the island

Some people choose to rent an ATV for the entire duration of their time in Santorini. It’s a popular way to get around the island. However, if you don’t feel like commuting on an ATV for your whole stay, you can always take a guided tour. Though I can’t share first-hand experience, thrill-seeking friends have shared rave reviews of the excursion!  These are just a few of the things I suggest doing and seeing during your time in Santorini, but this barely scratches the surface. Santorini is truly an enchanting place and I can’t wait for the chance to see it again one day.
