Hollywood is the land of some of the messiest splits around but there are some celebs who know how to keep things happily ever after in spite of breaking up. Is it possible to break up with someone and remain friends, real and true friends? Heck, yeah! These famous exes prove that breaking up may be hard to do but staying pals isn’t.

Chad Kroeger and Avril Lavigne

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck

Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake
JT's wife, Jessica Biel, probably hates that Justin and Cameron are still friendly, but that likely won't change anything. Despite breaking up in 2006, the two have filmed two movies together (Shrek the Third and Bad Teacher) and Diaz has said of their split, "Justin and I had a journey together and still do. It changed, but I'm fine with that and so is he. I will always love the man in so many different ways." I'm sure Biel loved that imagery.

Billy Bob Thornton and Angelina Jolie
Thornton has spoken out about how he and Angie remain good friends and they still talk on a regular basis. Jolie wrote the foreword in his memoir, and she even told Thornton ahead of her double mastectomy to inform him that she was planning to undergo the surgery and why.

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez

Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow

Wilmer Valderrama and Mandy Moore

Wilmer Valderrama and Demi Lovato

Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult

Elizabeth Hurley and Hugh Grant

Courteney Cox and David Arquette
Courteney and David have managed to maintain a friendship and business relationship in spite of divorce. Part of it is because they are still fond of one another but mostly for their daughter, Coco. The two separated in 2010 and divorced in 2013 and are each engaged to other people (she to musician Johnny McDaid; he to Christina McLarty) but have continued to support one another and still call each other "best friends." Aw.

Bruce Willis and Demi Moore
Demi might not be friendly with her most recent ex-husband, Ashton Kutcher, but she and Bruce have always gotten along. The parents of Rumer (also pictured), Scout and Tallulah have shown their support for one another at various events and red carpets and Willis was also by her side when she was rushed to the hospital last year prior to her rehab stint.

Johnny Galecki and Kaley Cuoco

Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon
Ryan and Reese probably remain close (close-ish?) more for the sake of their kids than each other, but, hey, it's something. They attend Ava and Deacon's school functions together and are often seen at the kids' games, along with Reese's husband, Jim Toth, and Ryan's girlfriend, Paulina Slagter. It's always nice to see divorced parents able to keep that connection.

Peter Facinelli and Jennie Garth
For the most part, if kids are involved, they are the priority and Facinelli and Garth are no exception. The two have managed to put their differences aside and co-parent well together.

Miranda Kerr and Orlando Bloom
Flynn's parents announced their split after three years of marriage in 2013 and when they said they were "amicably separated," they weren't kidding. Bloom told Katie Couric, "We love each other. We're a family. We're going to be in each other's lives for the rest of our lives. There's no question that for the sake of our son and everything else, we're going to support one another and love each other as parents to Flynn."

Orlando Bloom and Kate Bosworth
Maybe Bloom's just a nice guy because he's also friendly with ex-gal Bosworth. The two called it quits in 2006, but years later, the two ran into each other on a Hollywood street (she was walking, he was on his motorcycle). Instead of looking for a way to escape (because that's what I would do if I ran into an ex), Kate ran into the street to give Orlando a friendly hug. Sweet, no?

Lenny Kravitz and Nicole Kidman
Nicole and Lenny never really went public with their relationship (which began after she and Tom Cruise divorced), but, please, we all knew it happened. A decade after their split, the two bumped into each other backstage at the CMT Awards, and while it could've been awkward (Kidman was with her husband, Keith Urban, pictured), it so wasn't and the three even posed for a group shot. Awesome.

Chris Robinson and Kate Hudson
They were married for nearly six years but their divorce in 2007 never stopped the exes from remaining close as the two share custody of son Ryder. Kate and ex-fiancé Matt Bellamy are parents to Bing, Chris and his wife, Allison Bridges, have a daughter, Cheyenne, and they and Ryder have been seen together, hanging out like one big family. Now that's putting the function in dysfunction.

Deryck Whibley and Avril Lavigne
There's nothing complicated about the former couple who divorced in 2010. They've hung out since the split and when Whibley went public with news of his hospitalization due to years of alcohol abuse in May 2014, Lavigne was one of his biggest supporters, tweeting how proud she was of him and that he would always be family to her.
