Be careful with your lip colour
Erik advises choosing your lip colour carefully, as it shouldn't be based on your skin tone alone. Dark colours will make your lips look smaller, while light colours will make them appear larger.

Don’t rub your lips together
We have a tendency to rub our lips together after applying any type of lip colour, but you could be making a mega makeup mistake. If you're putting on long-wear lip colour, Erik recommends letting it dry after application and not doing the traditional rub. It'll let the colour set and keep your lips looking perfect all day.

Always prep your lips
Long-wear lip colour can be drying, so Erik suggests prepping your lips the night before. He's a big fan of Bite Beauty's Agave lip mask (so are we!), which he recommends wearing every night to infuse some extra moisture into dry lips.

Always prep your skin
It's not just long-wear lip colour that can dry your skin out, long-wear foundation or powder can do the same. In fact, Erik says that it's impossible for moisturizing and long-wear to go together. If you want coverage that's going to last, it won't be moisturizing, so make sure you prep your skin with a hydrating moisturizer before applying a high-coverage foundation.

Make your long-lasting lip colour do double duty
If you want a cheek tint that lasts, mix a bit of your long-wear lip colour with face primer to create a new consistency that works perfectly on your face.

Use a white metallic shadow to look more awake
This simple trick is one Erik uses regularly to make his clients look more awake. He smears a little white metallic eyeshadow across their lid to make their eyes appear more open and to make them look more awake.
Erik's favourite is Kat Von D Beauty's Thunderstruck.

DIY highlighter
Just because you don't own a highlighting product, doesn't mean you can't highlight your face. Erik recommends mixing your favourite gold, bronze or pink shimmer shadow with a little primer to create the ultimate highlighter.

Remove long-wear makeup properly
You can do real damage to your skin trying to rub off a long-wear foundation or lipstick. Erik recommends either using wipes made specifically for this type of makeup or an oil-based cleanser to remove stubborn product.

Renew liquid eyeliner
If your liquid liner isn't going on as smoothly as it used to, it might be because you've gotten eyeshadow stuck in the brush. To bring a finicky liner back to life, Erik recommends running the tip under warm water or in a bit of alcohol to remove any shadow residue.

Use matte shadow as brow filler
If you're in a pickle, or just prefer products that serve multiple purposes, try buying a matte brown shadow. It'll work well for your crease line, and Erik says it easily doubles as a brow filler.
