Some guys simply have no idea that their grooming habits (or lack thereof) make us cringe. You wouldn’t be alone if you wanted to put out a personal hygiene PSA to get your boyfriend to clean up his act. What our guys need to know is that there is more to grooming than just hoping in the shower and going on his merry way. Here are 10 tips your man needs to adopt now to boost his grooming game.

1. Floss
Healthy gums and clean teeth mean fresh breath. Fresh breath and a sexy smile means more kissing — enough said! Encourage your boo to floss each night before bed when you do, and pick up a new toothbrush for him every three months when you replace yours. Ladies, some things we just need to take into our own hands. Hopefully sooner or later, he’ll get the hint.

2. Use Hair Product
Even if it’s just a little bit of pomade, a smidge of hair product can take your man’s mane from cool to hot, in one sweep.

3. Trim Nails
Sorry guys, there’s nothing less attractive than long, dirty nails on a dude (we don’t care if you play guitar, it’s still gross!). Neat and tidy nails are easy to maintain with a pair of nail clippers and a nail file — it’s time to wave goodbye to jagged edges and man claws!

4. Shave Scraggly Neck Hairs
An often overlooked part of the body, the back of a man’s neck can be a breeding ground for fuzzy, unsightly hairs. It’s an awkward place to groom, so you might even offer to help shave it for him if he can’t quite reach it himself. Even if he’s not a ‘clean cut’ kind of guy, there’s a fine line to just how scruffy he should take it.

5. Manscape
Women are under so much pressure to trim, wax, shave, shape and tweeze the hair on their lady bits that we have stores devoted to every type of body hair removal style. Meanwhile, men have somehow gotten away with sporting pubic jungles for centuries! These days it not only OK for men to manscape, it’s courteous. Now, we’re not suggesting he does the full monty, but a light trim every now and then can keep his nether regions neat and tidy, and so much more appealing (a win-win situation for all!).

6. Trim Nose Hairs
It’s easy to be distracted by rogue nose hairs even on the most handsome face. By taking a close look at his schnozz once in a while, and using small nail scissors or an electric nose trimmer, your man can easily keep those strays at bay. Hair is good, as long as it’s in the right places.

7. Keep Toenails Short and Feet Clean
We’re not advocating that he book in a weekly mani/pedi, but gnarly toenails and dirty feet are a major turn off and say a lot about his personal hygiene levels. Keeping toenails clipped and feet clean doesn’t actually take much effort at all. He can get a nail brush for a few bucks and use it in the shower a couple of times a week. And, a sudsy loofah or wash cloth will keep his feet baby soft and clean.

8. Use a Cleanser
You wash your face every night before bed, and so should your boyfriend. Just because he doesn’t wear foundation, doesn’t mean he should go to bed with the day on his face. Oils and dirt build up on guys’ faces too and should be washed off before his head hits the pillow — dudes with facial hair really need to pay attention here — because that pillow will start to smell nasty pretty quickly and cause blemishes and clogged pores.

9. Don’t Over-Tweeze or Shape Eyebrows
OK, we’re asking a lot here — we want our men to be nicely groomed, but not TOO groomed. A very (and we’re talking, VERY) subtle pluck between the brows is fine, but overly sculpted eyebrows are too much, and can quickly take away his rugged sex appeal. So, whatever you do, try to steer your man away from waxing and threading. His best bet is to leave his eyebrows alone.

10. Make Sure Ears are Clean
Noticeably waxy ears are not cool — no one wants to see build up, least of all the person you’re making out with. It’s really not hard to clean out the old ear holes in the shower and dry them with a towel or tissue afterwards. For serious build up, a cotton bud inserted only at the ear opening, wouldn’t go amiss. Guys, can you hear us?
