‘The Real Housewives of New York’ is Getting a Reboot — With a Brand New Cast

Let’s be real — the 13th season of The Real Housewives of New York City was a bit of a train wreck. The once-iconic Real Housewives series wrapped up in September of last year without even the dignity of a reunion show. If fans could see there was a problem, producers of the show could definitely see it as well. As expected, Bravo went back to the drawing board, but what came out of their brainstorm was something fans didn’t predict.

This week, Andy Cohen announced the new two-part plan in an interview with Variety, saying that — after taking fan sentiment into consideration — the network would launch a rebooted RHONY series, as well as a second RHONY series featuring former stars. “You know that we’re at a crossroads for [RHONY]” Cohen said to Variety. “We’ve spent a lot of time figuring out where to go. And the plan that we’ve come up with, I think, is a real gift to the fans.”

From the sounds of it, the rebooted series will infuse New York’s rich stories and vibrant diversity through an all-new cast. “This is the most multicultural, diverse, and energetic and exciting city in America: We are searching for a multicultural group of friends who really best reflect the most exciting city in the country. We’re looking for a group of women who are real friends, and who are of diverse backgrounds, races and religions,” Cohen explained.

Though Cohen confirms that it hasn’t been decided who will be on each cast, he points to former cast members getting a shot at the second series. He assures fans that cast members like Jill Zarin, Eboni K. Williams and Bethenny Frankel will all be considered if they show interest. Meanwhile, the network is toying with names for the original series, with working titles like, “RHONY: Throwback” or “RHONY: Legacy.”

The recent success of The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip, a spinoff that joins former and current cast members across different series, influenced the idea around creating a ‘throwback’ series. “That informed the idea of doing this throwback, that’s allowed us to say, ‘Well, wait a minute, there is a big desire for an element of nostalgia.’”

We don’t know what they’re cooking up, but from the sounds of it, they’re onto something good.
